MOUZ has just won its first major Dota event at Wallachia Season 6–simultaneously fulfilling MidOne’s comeback arc and rewarding unproven talent on the team.
German organisation
MOUZ has just accomplished its first-ever Tier 1 Dota 2 tournament victory, toppling two-time The International (TI) champions
Team Spirit in the Grand Finals of PGL Wallachia Season 6.
MOUZ came into the tournament with uncertain expectations. The team barely have any track record to paint them as the favorites, but enough recent success to be a threat. They had recently earned merits following a Top 4 placement at BLAST Slam IV over two weeks ago. They also placed an impressive Top 6 at FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2 in October. But prior to that, the team would be nowhere near favoured to claim a major trophy.
MOUZ’s drastic rise is even more stunning considering their current roster was only formed two months ago. At that time, they seemed like an experimental mix of unhomed talent, built around former Gaimin Gladiators’ captain Melchior “Seleri” Hillenkamp. For the new season, the organisation had welcomed the legendary
Nai Zheng “MidOne” Yeik, who had long been absent from the top echelon of Dota 2.
Remco “Crystallis” Arets joined his fellow Dutch captain after being benched by Tundra Esports. And rounding out the lineup are unproven talents
Daniyal “Yamich” Lazebnyy and
Miroslav “BOOM” Bičan.
It’s wildly impressive that MOUZ managed to win a major event with a freshly put together lineup, even more as they had surfed through Wallachia S6 with two stand-ins–one of whom went all the way to the finals. MOUZ played Wallachia S6 without Crystallis and Seleri, who were unable to compete due to health reasons. Their absence was filled by former Nigma Galaxy carry Daniel Chan “Ghost” Kok Hong and young Ukrainian support
Oleh “Kaori” Medvedok. While Crystallis eventually returned for the Playoffs campaign, Seleri remained on the sidelines, leading kaori to play for MOUZ until the very end.
The team's victory at Wallachia S6 isn’t only significant for MOUZ, but also its individual players. The win had rewarded BOOM, yamich, and kaori with their first major tournament victory. This also adds to another successful tournament for Crystallis, who had won ESL One Bangkok and BLAST Slam III last season. But among MOUZ, one player vividly stood out in performance–and most importantly, in story.
MidOne is back
The legendary three-time Dota Major champion MidOne, who had once dominated the top scene with
Team Secret, is back in full force.
The Malaysian player is best known for being one of the best Dota 2 midlaners of all time, shining with lane dominance and game performance in the 2016–2019 era. But after parting ways with Secret in late 2019, MidOne experienced a rough decline and struggled to find his way back to the top. For a long time, MidOne underwent varying circumstances–experimenting with roles, building his own team in Southeast Asia, and even rejoining Team Secret–all to no avail. Now, MidOne finally finds his spark with MOUZ, officially competing in his first Tier 1 event in two years, and winning a Grand Finals after over six years. He was also widely praised for his performances, touted as the standout player of the event.
A full-length Lower Bracket campaign
As if MOUZ’s story wasn’t packed enough, here’s one more cherry on top. MOUZ’s unforeseen victory was achieved through a full-length Lower Bracket run–becoming only the ninth team to accomplish such a feat in competitive Dota 2 history.
The team began its Playoffs run with an immediate blunder, losing 1-2 to
PARIVISION. This placed them at risk of elimination from the very start, as they dropped to the first round of the Lower Bracket.
But everything fell into place once MOUZ had their backs against the wall. The team overcame a long and difficult journey, taking steps toward the trophy one opponent at a time.
They first swiftly defeated
Heroic 2-0, then swept
OGin the next round. Both fights seemed like convincing series for MOUZ, but their next games were visibly more strenuous, with all of them stretching to the third map. MOUZ claimed hard-fought series wins against
BetBoom Team and
Team Liquid, earning a spot in the finale where Team Spirit awaited.
If there was a team that MOUZ had to take down to prove their greatness, it was none other than Team Spirit. The formidable Eastern European juggernaut are known beasts when it comes to a best-of-five scenario, and defeating them would be no easy feat.
The finale unfolded into an epic five-map battle, with notable performances coming from both sides. They traded blows with neither team outshining the other. Ultimately, MOUZ landed the final nail in Spirit’s coffin–winning with well-executed fights, disciplined decision-making, and solid drafts.
MOUZ has shaken the grounds of Dota 2 with this victory. The team, led by coach Moza “Immortal.faith” Daniel, will enter their next event as one of the favourites—and that show is already upon us. MOUZ will compete in BLAST Slam V, starting tomorrow, 25 November.
