Fan-favourite teams OG and Nigma Galaxy were among the first teams to be eliminated from PGL Wallachia Season 3.
OG and
Nigma Galaxy, two of the most popular teams in Dota 2, were among the first teams to be eliminated from the ongoing PGL Wallachia Season 3, a 16-team, $1 million dollar LAN tournament in Romania. While the tournament's Swiss format Group Stage still has one more round left to play, both teams have already been eliminated after suffering three losses.
Despite being two of the most legendary organisations in Dota 2, both OG and Nigma Galaxy have experienced a rough decline since their glory days. OG made it into the tournament by securing the second spot in the Western Europe qualifiers while Nigma Galaxy earned a surprise invite after Talon Esports withdrew from the event just five days before it started. This latest result for the two organisations continue a disappointing start to the 2025 season.
OG lost all three series they played against Team Spirit,
Wildcard Gaming, and
Yellow Submarine, managing only two games won against their latter two opponents. Despite fielding a roster filled with big names like The International (TI) champions
Sébastien “Ceb” Debs and
Leon “Nine” Kirilin as well as multi-time TI grand finalist
Jian Wei “xNova-” Yap and renown Thai carry player
Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon, OG looked listless during their disastrous Group Stage run. Their loss to Yellow Submarine, who played with a stand-in and with players out of their typical roles due to visa issues, was particularly embarrassing.
Nigma Galaxy, on the other hand, managed to claim a 2-1 win against Natus Vincere, but suffered three other series losses against
Team Falcons,
Xtreme Gaming, and, once again, Yellow Submarine. It is worth noting that Nigma Galaxy are still not playing with their full lineup, as star carry player
Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi remains absent while
Daniel Chan “Ghost” Kok Hong has been designated as his stand-in for the foreseeable future. But following a surprising fourth place finish at BLAST Slam II with Ghost, Nigma Galaxy now seem to have crashed back down to earth.
While OG and Nigma Galaxy's early eliminations may not come as a complete surprise, their performances remain a disappointment – especially for their dedicated fanbases.
What’s next for OG and Nigma Galaxy?
Fans of Nigma Galaxy can take some solace as the team has more opportunities to prove themselves in upcoming events like ESL One Raleigh 2025 and PGL Wallachia Season 4, both of which the team qualified for. However, the situation isn’t the same for OG, as the team failed to qualify for any major tournaments in the first quarter of this year, except for PGL Wallachia Season 3.
PGL Wallachia Season 3 will continue this week with the Group Stage concluding on Wednesday (11 March). Only the Top 8 teams will advance to the Playoffs, and so far, Team Liquid, Team Spirit,
Gaimin Gladiators,
Team Tidebound, and Xtreme Gaming have qualified. The grand finale will occur on 18 March, with the champions walking away with the grand prize of US$300,000.
