Genting highlands to play host to the first Dota 2 LAN in Malaysia since 2018

ESL Gaming will return this August to Genting highlands after four years with a new Dota 2 tournament that will not be a part of the Dota Pro Circuit system.

ESL One Malaysia 2022, which will take place August 23-28 at the Arena of Stars in Resorts World Genting, will be the first LAN held in Southeast Asia since late 2019 and the first premiere LAN tournament held for Dota 2 in the country since the 2018 edition of ESL One Genting. The event will be held in front of a live audience and will welcome 12 of the world's best teams to fight for the title and a share of the $400,000 prize pool.

When we hosted ESL One in Genting back in 2017 and 2018, the fans brought along an amazing atmosphere and the place has kept a special place in our hearts ever since,” said Artem Bykov, General Manager, Game Management at ESL Gaming. “Returning the fantastic world of Dota 2 to the Arena of Stars is a great opportunity and we are thrilled to invite everyone for another amazing esports experience.”

Starting on August 23 with the group stage matches, the tournament will be a dress rehearsal for the teams that will be heading to Singapore for The International 2022. Out of the 12 teams that will enter the group stage, eight will make it to the playoffs, where they will have the chance to play in front of a live crowd.

Esports across Southeast Asia has seen enormous growth online in the last two years, during a time when live events haven’t been possible in the region,” said . It’s exciting to finally be able to offer fans throughout the region the ability to connect in-person again, as we return to stadium-scale esports events with ESL One Malaysia - Nick Vanzetti, Senior Vice President of Asia-Pacific Japan at ESL Gaming
