WePlay AniMajor team and hero statistics

With the second and final DPC Major of the year, the WePlay AniMajor, done and dusted, we take a look at the team and hero statistics for the event.

With the end of the WePlay AniMajor , the second and final DPC Major of the year has come to an end. Evil Geniuses, in their perennial search for the elusive Dota 2 Major victory, ended up in second place again for the third Major in a row. But while they lost in five games the last two times, there was little they could have done in the grand final of the WePlay AniMajor. PSG.LGD, who defeated the North American team 3-0, were a notch above all teams at the Major and displayed surgical precision right from drafting to executing smoke ganks in games, in what was the cleanest display of Dota 2 the community has seen in a long time.

The twelve teams that have qualified for The International will have a bit of a break before TI10, while the others will go back to the drawing board and try to figure out how to bring the best out of themselves to make it to Stockholm through the TI10 regional qualifiers. While the teams do that, let’s take a look at the team and hero statistics for the Kyiv Major.

Team statistics for the WePlay AniMajor

Hero statistics for the WePlay AniMajor

Total games played: 134
Total heroes picked: 100
Number of heroes unpicked or unbanned: 17
Most picked hero: Lion (61 games, 33 wins, 54.10% win rate)
Most contested hero: Templar Assassin (130 games, either picked or banned in 82.09% of the games with 35 picks and 75 bans)
Most banned hero: Broodmother (90 games)
Hero with the highest win rate (15 games or more): Invoker (19 games, 13 wins, 29.63% win rate)
Hero with lowest win rate (15 games or more): Tiny (27 games, 8 wins, 31.82% win rate)

The first thing that jumps off the board is PSG.LGD’s win rate. The Chinese team played 25 games and still managed to have a staggering win rate of 80%! They didn’t drop a single series and even in the group stages, didn’t have a 0-2 record against any of the teams. Of the five games they lost, none of the games was a beat down, with the shortest loss lasting 34 minutes and 43 seconds (group stage loss against Team Nigma). Teams all around the world will be studying what PSG.LGD did, not just to counter them, but to improve their own game. The team shows glimpses of the TI6 winning team, Wings Gaming, and even has two members from that roster on the current squad. PSG.LGD will travel to TI10 as the favorites based on their performance in the Kyiv Major.

The curse of Arteezy continues to haunt Evil Geniuses, as they are denied yet another Major win on the last day of the tournament. The team is definitely one of the best out there, and are bound to pick up a trophy not too far in the future. The North American Dota 2 community will be hoping for a repeat of 2015 when Evil Geniuses travel to Stockholm, and it is very much in the realm of possibilities.

In terms of heroes, the WePlay AniMajor definitely showed some heroes like Templar Assassin, Broodmother, Phoenix, Puck and Winter Wyvern (to name a few) to be extremely strong in this meta. But there was a definite shift in the overall tournament meta as the event progressed. Heroes like Faceless Void, Ursa and Dark Willow, who were contested a lot in the first few days, lost prominence and were replaced by others like Doom and Terrorblade. The overall meta is quite flexible and a few tweaks will lead to TI10 being a diverse event in terms of hero picks.
