Vega out, Liquid frontrunners of DreamLeague Season 7 after Day 1

Day 1 of DreamLeague Season 7 concludes after twelve grueling hours of play to reveal Team Liquid as the expected frontrunners and Vega Squadron the first to be eliminated.

The intimate affair of DreamLeague Season 7 playoffs held at DreamHack Atlanta are halfway over already. The four teams Team Liquid, Team Secret, Planet Odd and Vega Squadron went head to head for the one final showing before the crown prince of Dota 2 events, TI7 and the official end of the season.

In the opening series between Team Secret and Planet Odd, the TI6 runner up team - then known as Digital Chaos, upset the European bound giants Team Secret 2:1. With nothing on the line and their final appearance for the Dota 2 year, Planet Odd were calm and collected, making their mark on the tournament and showcasing their talent. Team Secret on the other hand seemed to be experimenting or having fun with item builds and drafts - perhaps in either mental or strategic preparation for Seattle.

Planet Odd advanced into the semi finals to face Team Liquid, the favoites of the event who had taken down Vega Squadron 2:0 after two nearly hour long matches. Team Liquid once again emerged unscathed from the series with a 2:0 victory - and another nearly hour long match under their belt.

Meanwhile, Vega Squadron were left to fight for their tournament lives in the elimination series of the lower bracket verse Team Secret. After taking the first game with relative ease and confidence, the CIS team was unable to continue to hold on to their dominance and quickly dropped the next game in 31 minutes, followed by another equally difficult match. Their series loss spelled out elimination for the CIS representatives and the end of the first day of competition.

Vega walk away with the fourth place prize of $20,000 and a break in competition to retool their strategy and plans going into the next season.

The remaining three teams will continue to compete for the lion's share of the $175,000 prize pool.

The last day of action will resume at 12:00 EDT/18:00 CEST with lower bracket finals between Planet Odd and Team Secret. The day will end with the winner of the series taking on Team Liquid in the Grand Finals. Games will be broadcast in English on the DreamLeague Twitch Channel.
