SL i-League invitational Season 2 groups stage has come to a close as Newbee exacted their revenge and eliminated Vega Squadron 2:0.
As Vega says goodbye to the stage in Shanghai China, Newbee will say hello to TnC Pro and the SL i-League invitational Season 2 playoffs as one of the final four.
The last series of the day started was a rematch of Vega vs Newbee - the first iteration taking place yesterday with Vega upsetting the Chinese home team 2:0. Vega's devestating 2:0 loss to Team Liquid dropped them into the loser bracket and a hard earned win against Team Faceless thrust Newbee back into contention for one final stand against the CIS team.
The first game of the elimination series started out with some really big plays and out of the gate aggression. Newbee were keeping even and playing out their strategy really well. Chipping away slowly at their lead, a successful Roshan would catapult them into the lead and create the space that Newbee needed to become comfortable. As the pressure started to intesify, Vega seemed to begin to buckle, getting caught out of position and looking more scattered than organized. With a "Beyond Godlike" streak for Song "Sccc" Chun on Queen of Pain, Newbee just steamrolled over Vega in stark contrast to their last match up and took the first victory with ease.
Simultaneous deaths to start symbolized just how close this game would be with both teams going all in for what potentially would be the final game of Vega's run at SL i-League invitational Season 2. Hitting hard, Newbee were firing on all cylinders, and determined not to let history repeat itself. In front of the home crowd, the Chinese team absolutely shellacked Vega with their Death Prophet and Razor lineup and tied up a tidy 2:0 series victory.
Tomorrow, May 21st, will close out the event with the two semi final series followed by the best-of-five Grand Finals. The action will kick off with Team Liquid taking on Invictus Gaming at 04:00 CEST.
