Midas Mode on hold until after TI7

Midas Mode - the new unconventional tournament by MoonduckTV has been put on hold until after TI7 due to scheduling conflicts.

In the weeks leading up to TI7 qualifiers, several major LAN events are making their mark on the scene. No less than five tournaments are scheduled between now and June, making it very difficult for teams to participate. Following the qualifiers, teams will be entering the bootcamp and training mode with their eyes on the TI7 prize.

A new date has not yet been set, however MoonduckTV is aiming to schedule the event to begin either the last week of August or the first week of September.

Fans that were looking forward to the event breaking up the monotony of traditional events may be disappointed, but Moonduck puts a positive spin on the delay.

The plus side to this delay is that we will have even more time to flesh out our pseudo-stock platform and work on a few additional features. Our goal is to make the Midas Mode experience as interactive and detailed as possible without overwhelming spectators and players with too much intricate complexity. This has proven to be quite the undertaking, and having additional time to find that sweet-spot is only a benefit.

The latest venture by MoonduckTV was announced at the end of February. Although the rules of the tournament had not yet been completely worked out, the idea includes a market system using MoonBucks that are distributed to each team.

  • MoonBucks can be used to draft or ban heroes and even pause the game.
  • When a team runs out of their money, a ‘hard mode’ will be enabled – allowing only the ‘worst heroes’ to be selected and no bans or pauses will be permitted.
  • A Bounty System will be put into place for teams to earn money back through community challenges – such as playing a game with Techies, killing Roshan but leaving the Aegis, and selecting only flying heroes.
  • The price is expected to fluctuate from game to game creating a market system based on supply and demand as well as finding a balanced economy.

MoonduckTV

The concept and realization of moonduck.TV was initiated by Shannon “SUNSfan” Scotten - Co-owner and founder of DotaCinema, and original founder of Digital Chaos.

Moonduck.TV started out hosting and casting the organization’s XMG Captain’s Draft Invitationals before moving on to hosting their own new. fun and offbeat tournament – Elimination Mode. Elimination mode is an event that is played in an alternative game mode, in which heroes can only be banned or picked once per series.

Due to high success and popularity, the studio continues to seek out alternative tournament modes and gimmicks to keep fans and players pleased as well as give some relief to the viewing of typical tournaments that liter the Dota 2 landscape.
