Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution–Chaos Rising unleashes Mega Greninja and Mega Floette in May 2026

Mega Evolutions return with new ultra rare cards.

Fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game have another expansion to mark on the calendar, as The Pokémon Company International has officially unveiled Mega Evolution, Chaos Rising, a new set arriving worldwide on 22 May 2026.

The announcement was made on 12 March 2026 in the official Pokemon website, confirming that the upcoming expansion will bring back some fan-favourite Mega Evolutions alongside new ultra-rare cards for collectors and competitive players alike.

The announcement arrives after early leaks in February had already hinted at the third Pokémon TCG set planned for 2026. With the official reveal now out in the open, players finally have a clearer look at what the upcoming expansion will bring to both collectors and competitive Trainers.

The new set centres on a dramatic clash in Lumiose City, where Mega Floette ex is said to be wreaking havoc as night falls across the iconic city. Trainers will be able to fight back using powerful cards such as Mega Greninja ex, alongside other Mega Evolution Pokémon including Mega Pyroar ex and Mega Dragalge ex.

As with previous expansions, Chaos Rising introduces a mix of collectible highlights and competitive tools for deck builders. The set features five Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and five additional Pokémon ex, alongside 11 illustration rare Pokémon cards that showcase unique artwork. Collectors will also be chasing 18 ultra rare Pokémon and Trainer cards, as well as six special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards.

A particularly notable detail in this expansion is the presentation of Mega Evolution cards themselves. Certain ultra rare cards will feature artwork that includes the silhouette of the Pokémon’s original form, giving long-time fans an extra visual nod to the evolution process that defined the mechanic’s debut in the series.

Players will be able to get their hands on Mega Evolution Chaos Rising through the usual range of products, including booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and themed collections available at participating retailers worldwide.

Competitive players will also have the opportunity to try the set early through Prerelease tournaments organised via the Play! Pokémon programme. These events are scheduled to begin on 9 May 2026 at participating independent retailers, giving Trainers a first chance to build decks and experiment with the new Mega Evolution cards ahead of the official release.

Meanwhile, digital players won’t have to wait quite as long. The expansion will arrive a day earlier on Pokémon TCG Live, launching on 21 May 2026 across iOS, Android, macOS and Windows devices. Players logging into the platform when the set drops will also be able to collect the new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and receive in-game bonuses.

With the return of Mega Evolutions and a headline battle between Mega Greninja and Mega Floette, Chaos Rising is shaping up to be one of the more collectible Pokémon TCG expansions of 2026.
