First round of the single-elimination bracket of WESG Regional LAN final has concluded and the eight European and CIS teams going to China later this year have been decided.

After the two Swedish and the two Ukrainian teams participating this weekend at the WESG Regional LAN qualifiers secured their trip to China by winning their respective groups, today, in the first playoffs round, Russia booked as well two tickets for the last stage of the tournament. Joining the Russians from Comanche and F5 are Team Romania and the Danes from Imperial.

Unfortunately, the two veterans left in the competition after the group stage, Jacob 'Maelk' Toft-Andersen and Sébastien '7ckingMad' Debs, lost the elimination first series in the playoffs today. Although Team Denmark was defeated, the country still has a very strong squad fighting for their flag, namely Imperial. If you are not familiar with Imperial, you might still recall them playing under the Danish Bears tag.

Coming with only one team to the WESG regional qualifiers, Romania had to fight hard for their spot into the $1.5M Global Grand Finals. Seeded in the toughest group with Team Ukraine and Que la Famille, Team Romania advanced into the playoffs where they had to face the team that probably knows them the best: Woof. Representing Netherlands, Woof features two of Pittner 'bOne7' Armand’s teammates from Kaipi: WehSing 'SingSing' Yuen and Alaan 'SexyBamboe' Faraj.

After they lost the first game of the best-of-three series against a Luna-Shadow Demon strat, Romania bounced back with a Huskar-Io combo in game two and snatched the qualifier spot from Woof in game three utilizing the illusions power provided by the Terror Blade- Shadow Demon duo.

WESG Global Grand Finals qualified teams from EU+CIS:

Sweden Alliance
Sweden Horde
Ukraine Team Ukraine
Ukraine Ne Rus?
Russia Fantastic 5
Russia Comanche
Romania Team Romania
Denmark Imperial

Although the eight finalists are known, the playoff matches will continue today and tomorrow. The rest of the rounds will be played to determine the $75,00 prize pool distribution.
