Virtus Pro claims top seed after ESL seeding matches

Virtus Pro takes pole position after finishing off Cloud9, Vici Gaming and Team Secret in their ESL One seeding bracket run. Finishing first gives them priority in picking opponent for the main event.

With a bracket just for seeding, such as ESL One's, it is always tricky to know what mentality teams enter the matches with. For some the teams it might mean more and for some less. Most teams would most likely be looking to play safe comfort stategies without giving away too much. A master of those strategies is Virtus Pro who seemingly always get a solid draft without resorting to gimmicky oddities. Fresh off their DreamLeague championship they beat Cloud9, Vici Gaming and Team Secret to claim the first seed.

Team Secret either gave away too much information or no information at all with their drafts, getting some quirky heroes such as jungle Bloodseeker, safe lane Bloodseeker, offlane Kunkka and mid Warlock. It worked well in the semi finals versus Invictus Gaming where Secret played with great synergy. However in the final game versus Virtus Pro, their draft did not show any noticable strengths outside of a, on-paper, solid team fight combination. Virtus Pro did what they did best, which is to play extremely aggressive, shut down opponent's lanes and overthrow them in the mid game. Secret will have to settle for second seed.

Evil Geniuses took on Invictus Gaming for third place, it was their second encounter of the bracket. The first one was won by iG in the winner bracket's first round, a suspenseful and great game. Similar to that first game, the second was indeed a worthy sequel. A back and forth game but it seemed as if the 6.83 go-to carry Juggernaut would seal the deal for Invictus Gaming and so was also the case, even though EG did not allow it to happen easily.

The seeding number determines in what order teams get to pick their opponents for the main event.

Seed #1 - Russia Virtus Pro
Seed #2 - Europe Team Secret
Seed #3 - China Invictus Gaming
Seed #4 - United States Evil Geniuses
Seed #5/6 - China Vici Gaming
Seed #5/6 - Malaysia Fnatic
Seed #7/8 - Sweden Alliance
Seed #7/8 - Europe Cloud9
