i-League Day 3 - VG and Tongfu.OB emerge victorious

Round two of the i-League's main event has concluded. The TongFu.Oldboys eliminated Rave from the tournament, and will face off against Vici Gaming who took down iG. The finals will commence tomorrow at 10:00 CEST.

The final four teams in the i-League have been reduced to two, leaving TongFu.Oldboys and Vici Gaming to battle it out in the finals tomorrow. The tournament was dominated by the Eastern scene, three of the semi-finalists being Chinese teams. The Oldboys have went from playing for fun to facing Vici Gaming in the finals of their first event as a team.

TongFu.Oldboys vs Rave

The day started with the Oldboys taking on Rave. The seasoned veterans of Tongfu could not rely completely on experience however, with the 6.82 meta being largely undefined at this point and everyone being completely outside their comfort zone. Brewmaster and Lich were picked in all three games, Lich having a 100% winrate, and Brewmaster not winning a single game.

Rave dominated most of the first game with an extremely fat TA and Refresher on Doom, but OB came back in the dying moments of the game. Tongfu relied on the tankyness of Bristleback and Nightstalker, mass Halberds and Linkens Spheres for the Doom, and most importantly, a Necrophos with Aganims Scepter, taking doom out of the game for over two minutes more than once.

Game two saw a comeback from Rave, where they created space for their Terrorblade to farm up while Centaur held the front line, and OB could not manage to come back. They did it in game three however, using the Aghanims Necrolyte once again and buying mass BKBs to take away Rave's Tide Ravage threat.

iG vs VG

Later in the day, iG and VG went head to head for the remaining spot in the finals, and neither team would let up. Game one was rather close, but VG controlled the pace of the game well. Eventually the carry power of Terrorblade proved too strong for iG, along with some great black holes from iceiceice and Tinker being the only thing close to a carry in iG's draft.

In game two, iG's Luo-Xi farmed an unstoppable weaver, and this in combination with a strong teamfight-oriented draft got the better of VG. The deciding match sealed iGs fate however. Ferarri 430's Spectre was shut down completely in the early game, and VG snowballed with a farmed Alchemist and Terrorblade, not to mention the Void-Skywrath-Lich wombo combo.

One of the biggest things many people are watching for in tournaments this week is obviously the changing meta. Patience with pushing as opposed to the deathball rush from 6.81, as well as Terrorblade being so successful in both these bo3's is worth noting.

Tomorrow, the final clash will get underway. TongFu.Oldboys and Vici Gaming start at 10:00 CEST, a last best of five being the only thing between them and the $96k first prize.

Vods for the matches can be found here as soon as possible.
