It took more than 15 hours of continuous action to decide the four finalists of MarsTV DotA2 League. While LGD and NewBee secured their playoff spot early, DK and VG had to go through tiebreaker matches with iG to earn their place in the next round.
The round-robin phase of MarsTV DotA2 League took place today, one day after the conclusion of Chinese TI4 qualifiers. Each of the six Chinese competitors played five matches against the other teams, aiming to finish in the top-four positions that lead to the playoffs. NewBee stormed their opposition, winning all five games and finishing first with ease. Behind them was LGD, dropping only one game against NewBee. CIS were unable to grab a victory today and were utterly eliminated from the competition.
As for the third and fourth positions, DK, ViCi Gaming and iG were tied with a 2-3 gamescore. Since the head-to-head results could not resolve the issue, tiebreaker matches were played between the three squads. Despite the ungodly hour and the exhaustion, ViCi managed to win both their games and earn the third playoff spot, while DK took down iG barely made it into the playoffs. Losing both their matches, Invictus Gaming are out of the tournament.
The playoffs are scheduled to begin on May 25th with NewBee facing DK at 06:00 CEST, while LGD will take on VG at 09:30 CEST. The winners of the two-best-of-three matches will advance to the best-of-five Grand Final to battle for the ~$16,000.
