While the official online phase of Star Series VI has concluded two weeks ago, two of the original top four teams in the standings, Natus Vincere (bootcamping in China) and Kaipi (travel costs), have decided to withdraw from the LAN finals. Quantic and mousesports (5th and 6th) were next in line, but the Germans also decided to withdraw, leaving the final spot in the playoffs to one of RoX.KIS, 4FC, and ICCup (tied for 7th).
Initially, these three teams were scheduled to play a three-way tiebreaker to determine the last qualifier. However, according to an article on prodota.ru, Vitali 'v1lat' Volochai cited the recent betting scandal involving RoX.KIS's ex-member Alexey 'Solo' Berezin as the reason to disqualify the Russian squad from further participation in season VI. As a result, 4FC and ICCup were the lone participants in the tiebreaker, which ICCup emerged victorious 2-0 and booked their spot in the Kiev LAN finals.
Qualified teams:
Virtus.Pro
Alliance
Quantic
iCCup
The offline finals will begin next Thursday, July 4 and will be played out utilizing a double-elimination format. All the games will be best-of-three with the exception of the grand final, which will be best-of-five.
