ESL Major Series One



Looks like 2013 will be an interesting year for Dota 2, with ESL picking it up as a part of their EMS One series. Four seasons with offline playoffs will take place during the year, each with a $39,000 prize pool.

Dota 2 is an interesting game, following the huge grassroot success that was the WC3 DotA. A new genre was created, a new kind of eSport and the genre is getting more refined and more hyped the longer it breathes. And with more hype and interest, more players on the market are bound to pick it up and creating products around it. This time it’s ESL taking an interest in the game, being the huge player they are in the European market.

ESL will bring a new format to their ESL Major Series, simply called “ESL Major Series One”. It features both Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: GO and consists of four seasons throughout the year. Each season holds a prize pool of $39,000 per title, resulting in a total of $156,000 for Dota 2 in 2013. It’s been 2½ years since ESL Major Series had a DotA division under its wings, the last one being EMS VI where the German squad then known as Competo claimed the first prize.

The seasons will each have an online stage aswell as an offline stage. Stay tuned for more news about EMS One as more will be known tomorrow already.

ESL (Electronic Sports League) has been around since 1997, currently has over 4 million registered users and has hosted numerous of tournaments in several languages over several different eSports and games. Most noticeable of those is the Intel Extreme Masters.
