Virtus Pro and sP were the two teams who really showed their best in the MeetYourMakers Prime Defending tournament. Now, Maruchan Ramen tries to pinpoint what made them so successful in the event.
The avid poster at DotA-Allstars.com posted his thoughts about the Russian dominance in the latest MeetYourMakers Prime Defending tournament. Five out of the sixteen playoff entrants hailed from Russia. Two of those teams, Virtus Pro and sP[Palit].Kow3 dominated the playoffs, Virtus Pro not dropping a single match, while sP lost only to Virtus Pro.
Four keypoints
Maruchan Ramen writes that it can not only be coincidence that the Russian teams were doing so well. He lays it down into four key points: Individual skill, the Extended League mode, Dictating the Gameflow, and Nukes, Carries, and Blink Daggers. He writes that even though DotA is more team-oriented than any other e-sport, individuall skill remains a significant consideration in every phase of the game.
- A skilled player is more likely to gain the upper hand in a lane and set up a strong late game, more likely to find opportunities to farm through midgame (as Jolie and vigoss did so many times) more likely to hit that crucial stun (see Admiration's Priestess of the Moon or vigoss' Lina), he writes, and adds that team coordination is based part on individual skill - being able to understand one's role and executing it properly even under a team fight.
But why should the Russian teams Virtus Pro and sP be better at the Extended League mode than others? To that, Maruchan Ramen writes:
- This shift away from synergistic lineups favors these Russian teams, stacked with talent as they are: the importance of individual skill becomes amplified in such a setting, and VP in particular had more of it than anyone else.
