$1M PEA league announced

The reveal of the newly-minted Professional eSports Association comes with announcement of new $1M CS:GO league.

Several of the most prominent North American teams have announced their joint formation of the Professional eSports Association, a new collaborative organization that aims to benefit professional players and teams in the NA eSports space. Seven teams are a part of the organization currently: Team Solomid, Cloud9, Team Liquid, Counter Logic Gaming, Immortals, NRG eSports and compLexity Gaming.

The PEA represents something new in eSports - an association of top teams running their own league and sharing the profits and the decision - making with the players. This has been the architecture of traditional major sports leagues for many decades, but it is a new evolution for eSports. This will allow us to finally build a stable, healthy, long-term environment for the players, the community, the media and the sponsors.” - Jason Katz, PEA commissioner

Benefits of the new league include more favourable prize distribution for players, health insurance, retirement and investment planning, as well as more control of league policy by the players. Player representatives will be featured in prominent positions in the various governing bodies of the league, including Rules and Grievances committees.

 Alongside the establishment of the organization itself, the PEA has also revealed its inaugural eSports league, a $1,000,000 CS:GO league. The first 10-week season of the league will feature $500,000 in prize money, with matches being streamed bi-weekly.
