ELEAGUE - Week 5 Recap

Na'Vi secure their spot in the eLeague playoffs as they dominate this weeks group stage.

Tuesday, June 21st - Round robin

Ukraine Na'Vi vs. United States Echo Fox – 10:5, 6:1 (16:6); 3:12, 8:4 (11:16)
Winners: Ukraine Na'Vi, United States Echo Fox
Maps: de_Train, de_Dust2
MVP: Ukraine Denis "seized" Kostin

Match one of group E started with Train. Echo Fox came out aggressive from the get go and took the first 3 rounds. However Na'Vi answered back strong and won the next 6, on round 6 Seized had an impressive 3 kills as he aggresively cut through to the terrorist controlled area of the map and caught Echo completely off-guard. The latter half of the match was all Na'Vi, Echo had an impressive start to the game but their T side was out-played at every angle. Na'Vi closed out the match only allowing Echo Fox 1 round win after the half, 16:6.

The second match of the day was fan favorite de_Dust 2 and again we saw a very strong start from the Americans who won the first 5 rounds. Even after Na'Vi pick up their first win in round 6 the aggression didn't stop which led to a 12:3 half in favor of Echo Fox. As the match progressed Na'Vi managed to bring the game closer but Echo Fox won two important eco wins on rounds 21 and 25 and clinched the match at 11:16.

?Germany Mousesports vs. Ukraine Flipsid3 – 6:9, 9:6, 1:4 (16:19); 5:10, 1:6 (6:16)
Winners: ?Germany Mousesports, Ukraine Flipsid3
Maps: de_Train, de_Cobblestone
MVP: ?Netherlands Chris "ChrisJ" de Jong

The first map of this match-up was Train and it was a close game with solid performances coming from each team. It started with Mouz picking up the first 3 rounds, however Flipsid3 answered back with fast T plays and won the next 4. On many occasions the Ukrainians were down a player or two but still were able to get the bomb planted and defend it to completion, this defense ability gave them the edge at the half with a 3 round lead 9:6. In the second half Flipsid3 took the first three rounds but impressively Mouz came back and won the next 6 on Round 24 Niko got an entry kill onto the B bombsite and subsequently annihilated the next two enemy opponents who came in leaving the remaining CT's to hide out the remainder of the round. This game was intense, very well played by both teams with a lot of clutch moments and round wins with 1 or 2 people alive at the most. Mouz took the in in OT 19:16.

Next up was to be Cobblestone and Flipsid3 came out strong winning 9 of the first 10 rounds with ease. Although Shara - of Flipsid3 - wasn't having a very good match the rest of the Ukrainians played extremely well; WorldEdit was 23/6 at the end of the half. Although Mouz were getting crushed they did manage to pick up some late round wins and bring the half to a 5:10 scoreline. In games past the Germans have never been great at gaining momentum and/or keeping that momentum and this was a prime example, they picked up a meager 1 round in the second half and Flipsid3 walked away with the victory 16:6.

?Ukraine Na'Vi vs. Germany Mousesports – 15:0, 1:0 (6:16); 12:3, 4:3 (16:6)
Winners: ? Germany Mousesports, ?Ukraine Na'Vi
Maps: de_Mirage, de_Cobblestone
MVP: Ukraine Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovacs

It seems as though Mouz had something to prove on this match (Mirage) after their upsetting loss against Flipsid3 earlier in the day. They played fast, utilized smokes and flashes very well and stormed sites as a group. The Germans picked up 9 of the first 10 rounds, not all were so easy though. On round 9 Seized flanked the A bombsite from palace and got two quick frags with the CZ, grabbed an AK and got another only to be shut down by the last remaining Mouz player Niko. Round 14 was another close round with an awkward battle on catwalk and a TK from Spiidi, however he pulled an Ace and won them the round almost singlehandedly. The half closed at 10:5 in favor of Mouz. Nothing after that went in the way of Na'Vi, quick kills and limited force buys lead to them essentially running to their deaths. The match ended at 16:6.

This match went the complete opposite of the first game. Na'Vi started out on the T side and their mobilitiy and game sense carried them to an amazing 12:3 half. Guardian was unstoppable, it was the highest caliber performance of him that has been seen in quite some months. Despite being utterly destroyed by Na'Vi, Spiidi did manage to pick up an ace (starting with the Mag-7 in drop) for the second time today in round 15. Mouz gained momentum in the second half and were able to pick up 3 quick round kills, but despite their best efforts it wasn't enough, the deficit too large. Na'Vi took this map 16:6.

Wednesday, June 22nd - Round robin

?Germany Mousesports vs.  United States Echo Fox – 11:4, 5:8 (16:12); 9:6, 7:6 (16:13)
Winners: Germany Mousesports
Maps: de_Cobblestone, de_Train
MVP: Netherlands Chris "ChrisJ" de Jong

Echo Fox came out extremely fast and slaughtered Mouz throughout the first 4 rounds. Mouz pick up their first win on a eco round 5, only ChrisJ - who got 3 amazing kills defending the A bombsite - had a weapon (awp) which he managed to save from the prior round. This win started a rally from the CT side and Mouz won the next 11 (4:11 half) rounds with ChrisJ stepping up amazingly on the awp. Echo Fox won the next 5 rounds and brough themselves back into this game, fREAKAZOiD was instrumental in his aggresive pushes managing to take down more than one enemy member untraded. Despite the North American's best effort they weren't able to completely close the gap and the match ended 16:12.

Next up was Train and it seemed that Echo Fox was on the verge of a very quick victory. They started out on the CT side and weren't budging an inch, Mouz were struggling to even get an initial bomb plant, moreover they were struggling to even set foot on a bombsite. The North Americans dominated the first half 11:4. Second half was an impressive display of CT side power from Mouz, they won 11 rounds straight to put them at match point only to have ryx step up huge in the 27th round to give Echo Fox their first win of the half. Although Echo defended match point boldly, for two rounds, Mouz pulled the win at 16:13.

?Ukraine Na'Vi vs. Ukraine Flipsid3 – 11:4, 5:4 (16:8);  12:3, 4:3 (16:6)
Winners: Ukraine Na'Vi
Maps: de_Overpass, de_Train
MVP: Ukraine Denis "seized" Kostin

For the first time this week Overpass made an appearance in this match-up. Flipsid3, despite losing the first pistol round went on a 4 round spree only to be stomped in the later rounds by a merciless Na'Vi whom, once they got their footing, won 8 of the last 10 rounds. Although Na'Vi were playing amazing the scoreline at the half was still respectfully close at 9:6 Na'Vi. Echo Fox had a solid T side performance on Overpass, surprisingly they made most of their plays on the B bombsite and were able to pick up some clean round wins to bring the score a little closer, but to no avail or surprise - Na'Vi won 16:8

Train was second in the map series and it started off about as expected. Flipsid3 were only able to get 3 wins in the first half and none in consecutive order, despite amazing skill from WorldEdit. Na'Vi were much more aggressive, managed to get quick kills and surrounded the enemy team with flanks and group peaks. The half closed out 12:3 Na'Vi. Nothing substantial changed in the second half, Flipsid3 did show some signs of life but after allowing 12 rounds to Na'Vi in the first half their was very little they could do to stop the impending win, 16:6.

Ukraine Flipsid3 vs. United States Echo Fox – 4:11, 1:5 (5:16); 13:2, 3:0 (16:2)
Winners: United States Echo Fox, Ukraine Flipsid3
Maps: de_Nuke, de_Train
MVP: Russia Georgi "WorldEdit" Yaskin

Surprisingly Nuke makes an appearance this week at eLeague. This match did not go well for Flipsid3, they were stuck ecoing nearly every round without a stable economy. Even with their lack of guns Echo Fox played such a smart and formidable CT side that Flipsid3 were lucky to even get the 4 round wins they had in the first half. In Round 16 it looked as if Flipsid3 were going to pick up a much needed pistol round as they were left in a 3v1 against roca who was hiding in toxic on the B bombsite, yet as they were defusing the bomb he crept through smoke and killed the defuser leaving them timeless against a ticking bomb. The rest of the match was an echo of the beginning, Echo Fox took it 16:5.

WorldEdit, can we just talk about WorldEdit? He was the entire game, setting LAN records for most frags in one half (31), most average kills per round (2.09) and highest rating (3.42). His final score was 37-4-6, a Kill/Death ratio of 6.17. This match went about as well as you could guess. Flipsid3 were only able to put two rounds on the board before being closed out completely only 3 rounds into the second half. Final score 16:2.

Thursday, June 23rd - Weekly semi-finals, Bo3

Ukraine Na'Vi vs. United States Echo Fox – 10:5, 6:4 (16:9); 4:11, 7:5 (11:16); 11:4, 5:1 (16:4)
Winner: ?Ukraine Na'Vi
Maps: de_Nuke, de_Overpass
MVP: Ukraine Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev

Semi-finals, game one, de_Nuke and both teams came out to play. Despite being at an obious disadvantage in skill Echo Fox did keep them close and managed to put Na'Vi on a couple quasi-buys in certain rounds. Neither team was able to bank a substantial amount of money with rounds being traded back and forth so frequently. Round 11 was quite impressive, 2v5 in favor of Echo Fox when all of a sudden Edward came in with 4 quick kills, however Roca managed to best Seized in a 1v1 to win them that very sloppy round. The second half was a bit more even than the prior, both teams had win streaks of 3 rounds and although Echo Fox had a very strong performance they were beaten at 16:9.

The second match (Overpass) was an all-out slaughter, Flamie, Seized, Guardian, all of the Na'Vi team showed up during this match. On most rounds they didn't lose more than 1 or 2 teammates, they kept the buys low the entire game for Echo Fox. Forcing them to have to deal with Tec-9 armor only on a map that is incredibly difficult without long range weapons. Echo Fox did gain some traction in the very late rounds of the first half but by then it was too late, Overpass is Na'Vi's map, everyone knows it. This semifinal closed at 16:4 with Na'Vi moving onto the final match.

?Ukraine Flipsid3 vs. Germany Mousesports – 12:3, 4:6 (16:9); 11:4, 5:5 (16:9)
Winner: ??Ukraine Flipsid3
Maps: de_Overpass, de_Cache
MVP: Ukraine Andrey "B1lad3" Gorodenskiy

Overpass, the first map of second semi-final. Flipsid3 won the first 7 rounds on their CT side before giving one up, everything Mouz tried was being thwarted by the enemy team whether they played patiently or try a hard push onto a bomb site. The economy of the Germans was consitantly low and the spirits of the Ukrainians consistantly high. Flipsid3, although on some occasions took quite a while to rotate and help their teammates, dominated the first half with an impressive scoreline against such a veteran team 16:9. Mouz picked up some steam in the later half of the game winning the opening rounds, namely an impressive performance by Niko on the 18th round killing 3 of the enemy side with one spray as they tried to force their way onto the A bombsite. Although the later half of this game was a dog fight with neither team managing to keep many players alive it was the Germans who fell, 16:9.

Match 2 was Cache; surprisingly it was the first appearance of the map in this weeks eLeague bracket and do or die for Mouz. It started in very similar fashion to Overpass with Flipsid3 being utterly dominant. They swarmed bombsites in seconds and Mouz was unable to defend them long enough for rotates to come in and consequently picked off one at a time. Also Niko was nearly absent this series' which, being their star player, is a hard deficit to come out of. The half closed at 11:4 with all of the pressure on the German team to make something miraculous happen in the second half. If Mouz had come out with this performance from the start of the match it would have been a different story, on the pistol round ChrisJ got a 4k, a few rounds later Nex got a solid 3k to secure the win. The differential in score from the first half was too much to overcome despite a solid team effort and Flipsid3 goes to the final against Na'Vi, score: 16:9.

Friday, June 24th - Weekly final, Bo3

?Ukraine Na'Vi vs. Ukraine Flipsid3 – 9:6, 7:7 (16:13); 14:1, 2:4 (16:2)
Winner: ?Ukraine Na'Vi
Maps: de_Train, de_Mirage
MVP: Ukraine Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev

Train, an extremely popular map this week, map 1 for the finals of this week's eLeague bracket. Na'Vi came out hot from the gate as would be expected and picked up 4 rounds in a row with little contest. However despite Na'Vi's skill Flipsid3 weren't going to go down that easy and they answered back with 4 rounds of their own. For awhile the rounds were going back and forth in an impressively display of CS, WorldEdit kept his team alive hardly missing any shots against his fellow Ukrainians but once the Flipsid3 economy was completey broken Na'Vi walked away with a couple rounds closing out the half at 9:6. Flipsid3 kept the scoreline close with by winning nearly every other round, but they were never able to take the lead. On round 26 guardian clutched a 1v2 defending a ticking bomb on the B bombsite to further ruin Flipsid3's unstable economy. It was an awesome game, very well played by both sides especially from the underdog team Flipsid3 however the ending score had to go one of two ways and it went in the way of Na'Vi - 16:13.

It all comes down to Mirage. Did you expect anything other than Na'Vi winning? We all knew they weren't going to lose in the group stage. Sorry Flipsid3 but the better team won and they did so with style. We had that earlier post about WorldEdit, now let's talk a little about Edward who went 27-1-5 this match putting up many multi-kill (two 2K's in each pistol round) rounds just driving the nail into the coffin. Also not to forget Flamie, who was 19-0-4 at the end of the 13:2 half. There is little any team can do when Na'Vi play that well, especially not a team that isn't as weathered as some. Flipsid3 couldn't manage to get trade kills and they had an extremely difficult time surpassing the double awp setup from Seized and GuardiaN, ultimately it was a slaughter. The final score was a overwhelming testament to the skill and dominance of Na'Vi, 16:2.
