Shox, G2 claim the 8th qualifying spot for ESL One Cologne, defeating Cloud9 16-8 on Cache.
Cloud9 started strong on CT pistol, with Jake "Stewie2K" Yip and Alec "Slemmy" White both picking up two kills. Cloud9 won the next two anti-ecos, however strong entries by G2 halted their momentum for a score of 3-1.
Following an economical reset in the 5th round by Cloud9, G2 executed on the A-site with and found themselves in a 3v5 post plant with no utility. Richard "shox" Papillon transitioned from the barrels under boost to forklift and shut down the defence with an insane ace.
G2 carried this momentum, taking a 7-4 lead and forcing Cloud9 into a tactical timeout. Cloud9 transitioned from the passive positions that played into the hands of the superior aimers on G2 to more aggressive positions and eventually brought back the half 8-7.
Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom picked up a 3k and Richard "shox" Papillon picked up a 2k to take control of the second half for G2. Solid anti-ecos and a strong first rifle defence from G2 pushed the score up to 12-8 for G2.
In the 21st round, Cloud9 did well to bait out most of the CT utility, eventually bursting out 3 through squeak door and 2 through A main to catch Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux off guard near A main. Richard "shox" Papillon, from the default position, sprayed down all three squeak players , eventually picked up his second ace of the game.
After such a demoralizing round, Cloud9 was unable to break the defence and the final score ended 16-8 for G2, qualifying them in the eighth spot for ESL One Cologne.
