The final day of the MLG Columbus closed qualifiers concluded today with Cloud9 winning the final spot at the US-based major, but there was much more that went on during the course of the day. The day began in group A with the lower bracket decider match betweenFlipSid3 Tactics and Tempo Storm. FlipSid3 suffered a soul-crushing defeat yesterday after narrowly losing to G2 eSports, but the Ukrainians didn't seemed fazed as they easily defeated Tempo Storm with a 16:5 win on de_cache and then on de_train, winning them a major spot alongside G2.
No matches from group C were played today as all had been completed yesterday.
Counter-Logic Gaming gave fans a scare in the final match of group C, where they were forced to confront Vexed Gaming, a team that has garnered a reputation as NA killer. Things looked good however in the first map, where CLG managed to come out on top on de_dust2 16:13, in part due to a mediocre performance from the Vexed's stand-in. The Poles turned around with a vengence on de_train however, taking the map with a brutal 16:3 scoreline. Luckily for CLG, the third map, de_train, is one of Vexed's weaknesses, and they took it 16:13, securing a spot at the major.
Group D featured the final matchup of the day, Cloud9 versus Renegades vying for the final spot at MLG Columbus. Cloud9 fought their way to a 2-0 victory on a knife's edge, winning the first map, de_mirage, 16:14 through an extremely risky forcebuy. The second map, de_cache, was even closer, with each team taking identical 8:7 halves that brought the game into overtime, but the North Americans closed the map out finally 16:19.
