The first day of the much anticipated DreamHack ZOWIE Open: Leipzig has concluded, with some surprising upsets and nerve-wrecking matches.

Group A

Match #1 - Winner: Ukraine Na'Vi
Ukraine Natus Vincere vs. Denmark SK Gaming - Best of one
The CIS mix was very dominant over the course of the match, absolutely destroying the Danes on de_mirage. A special shout out to Na'Vi's team captain, Danylo ''Zeus'' Teslenko for a beautiful performance with the Deagle. The final score was 16:3 in favour of Na’Vi, sending SK Gaming into the lower bracket.

Match #3 - Winner: Europe FaZe
Brazil Luminosity Gaming vs. Europe FaZe - Best of one
Ex-G2 Esports, now Faze, managed to debut in a spectacular fashion, landing themselves a win over Luminosity Gaming on de_inferno with 16:9.

Match #5 - Winner: Brazil LG
Denmark SK Gaming vs. Brazil Luminosity Gaming - Best of three
This best of three map series was taken by Luminosity Gaming, as they were able to overpower SK Gaming on two out of the three maps. First up was de_overpass, where LG showed their dominance, taking it away 16:7 against the Danes. A rather linear match with successful pushes on the  Brazilian's T-side and stalwart holds on the CT-side.
Next was de_mirage. The Danes showed a strong initial CT side and managed to transition their momentum into the second half of the map, landing them 16:10 against the Brazilian powerhouse.
Finally we saw de_train. The first half demonstrated profuse back and forth motion between the teams, ultimately leveling out going into the second half. By the end of the final map, Luminosity Gaming managed to secure a surplus in rounds and took away the series, sending SK Gaming packing home with a 16:10 score.

Group B

Match #2 - Winner:
Denmark Astralis
Denmark Astralis vs. Denmark Team Dignitas - Best of one
Astralis, a new organisation founded by the ex-Questionmark roster and additional investors, has maintained their reputation as one of the top teams in the world after successfully winning Team Dignitas 16:9 on de_overpass.

Match #4 - Winner: Germany Mousesports
Poland Virtus.Pro vs. Germany Mousesports - Best of one
Mousesports did their country proud after rolling over Virtus.Pro on de_dust2. The Germans upset the Polish roster with a 16:5 score, with Chris ‘’chrisJ’’ de Jong stepping up for his team.

Match #6 - Winner: Denmark Team Dignitas
Denmark Team Dignitas vs. Poland Virtus.Pro - Best of three
Team Dignitas managed to force their game onto the Poles, landing them two maps from the series of three. First was de_cache, where the Polish roster pushed over Team Dignitas with 16:11. This was not a particularly convincing victory, as the Poles showed shakey gameplay throughout both halves.
The second map of the series was de_mirage. The first half the teams went even, with Virtus.Pro initially showing very strong site pushes and bomb defences, yet Dignitas managed to even it out in the end with some tricks of their own. In the second half the Danes resolved their issues and overpowered Virtus.Pro 16:7.
The last map of the day was de_cobblestone. Being a notoriously CT-sided map, Dignitas showed a fairly lackluster performance on the dominant side, allowing the Poles to go even in terms of round by the end of the first half. In the second half, Virtus.Pro held bomb sites and pushed back the Danes, however, not sufficiently so, prolonging the game via overtime. The first overtime concluded at 18:18, where Wiktor ''TaZ'' Wojtas clawed back his team's chance to proceed further by clutching in a 1v2 situation. The second overtime, however was taken by Team Dignitas, with a 22:20 score.
