Only three games were left before yesterday’s matches in the Overwatch Pit Championship. So who made it to the finals? Well, here’s a recap of what happened.
We’re getting incredibly close to crowning our Overwatch Pit Champion. Yesterday, we got our two European finalists. Before the games, Dignitas had basically upset the entire bracket, eliminating Laser Kittenz, NiP and Misfits from the competition. Question was if they would manage to make it all the way after the momentum they’d gained.
eUnited vs. Movistar Riders - Movistar Riders wins, 3-0
Beforehand this game could go either way. The eUnited squad has yet to shown their full potential if we were to look at their individual skill and previous record as Reunited. But Movistar Riders has been looking solid all throughout this tournament. The first map of Lijang Tower was a close ordeal. But Movistar Riders barely manages to close out a 3-2 win, giving them the lead from the start of this matchup.
On Route 66, it was basically the battle of the dive comps. eUnited had a lot of time going for the last point. But with a decent stall from Movistar Riders, eUnited only had less than a minute left when they got to the end. For Movistar Riders though, they struggled slightly getting to the first point. Then they got some wind in the sails, slowly making it to the final point with 15 seconds left. Then there was the Great Battle of the Route 66 Overtime of 2017 (™). After what felt like an eternity of OT, Movistar Riders managed to secure yet another map.
The final map was Nepal, where the teams once again fought a very close battle. But after a 3-1 round victory, Movistar Riders advanced to the finals.
Dignitas vs. eUnited - eUnited wins, 3-2
After their loss in the upper bracket, eUnited got a second chance against the upset from yesterday of Dignitas. They first went to Dorado, where an Earthshatter and Nanovisor combo from Dignitas kept eUnited from getting to the end. It looked good at the start for Dignitas on their defense.
But then… Dignitas didn’t even get to the first checkpoint.
Anyway, on to King’s Row. Dignitas managed to shape up a bit after the first map and took the streets of England, making the series 1-1. But the third map, Lijang, was not as close. It looked a bit more like how it did when Dignitas tried to attack on Dorado. Like trying to punch someone in the face with a wet noodle…
On to Route 66. Again, Dignitas managed to shape up, and staggered eUnited before they got to the last point. LiNkzr and co then makes it further, taking this map making the series 2-2. As the deciding map, they went to Nepal. There, the teams once again looked equal, going all five rounds to decide a winner. In the end, eUnited was slightly stronger and knocked Dignitas out of the tournament. Therefore, eUnited will once again face Movistar Riders, this time in the finale though.
The European finale will be played on twitch.tv/overwatchpit as usual, at 18:00 CEST/9am PDT. It should be a good game, considering Movistar Riders and eUnited has both looked fairly equal in terms of skill, and eUnited should be thirsty for revenge.
