Tomorrow the maiden season of the Overwatch Pacific Championship is set to begin its first week of the 13-week tournament to see who will take home 3 million NTD cash prize.
The Overwatch Pacific Championship (OPC) will be played in four rounds of the Round-Robin format, where each of the teams will play every other team a total of four times, allowing fans vast amount of games to enjoy. On top of this, each game will be a best-of-five (BO5) instead of the standard best-of-three.
After the 11-week regular season, the top three teams will advance to the playoffs, which will last another two weeks. Each week will contain three best-of-seven (BO7) matches. Each week will work in the same way as a best-of-three; the team who wins two days will win the week, afterwards the winning team will face the winner of the Regular Season in the last week of BO7 matches. The winner of the final will earn the 3 million NTD cash prize.
The OPC introduces a Home/Away system where a team will be the ‘Home Team’ twice and the ‘Away Team’ for the other two matches between teams in the Regular Season. The Home Team will have the advantage in the BO5 games, with the Home team deciding the first, third and fifth maps and if they want to attack or defend first. The Away Team will choose the second and forth maps. Each team will have a “Home Team’s Day," where that team will have a home advantage for two of their matches.
For the playoffs, the team that finished higher in the Regular Season will have the overall Home Team advantage. Out of the three days, this team will have the advantage on days 1 and 3 whereas the other team will only have it on day 2. The Home teams advantage is the same as the BO5 but the Home Team can also choose the seventh map and the Away Team can choose the sixth map.
