Overwatch Pit Championship NA Group A day 1 & 2 recap - No points for almosts

While the European group play of the Overwatch Pit Championship is nearing its end, the American group play has just started.

Event hub

The first two days of North American Overwatch showed close games overall, though compLexity looked shaky at best. During the first day of group plays, we saw Gale Force eSports versus Selfless, where the latter acted as the favorite after their impressive OMM March run. On the first map of Hollywood, Gale Force looked hungry and capped the first point very quickly. But after that, they didn’t reach the finish until they were in overtime, which resulted in the Selfless victory shortly after.

(Selfless’ Sinatraa on Tracer is scary good, plus bonus BM.)

Then they went to Volskaya, where Gale Force after a very long game managed to force a game three. It was an interesting series of games for sure, where Sinatraa played an almost-sickeningly good Tracer, and Gale Force choosing an… interesting lineup for their first defense on Volskaya. But a 2-1 victory for Selfless got added to the books.

(Kudos to a team for trying something new, shame it didn't work out that well...)

After compLexity has gone through some major roster changes, Rise Nation got the best of them in their matchup. Rise took both Numbani and coL’s choice, Hanamura, pretty convincingly. A game which was a bit more even was CLG vs. LG Evil. CLG took the first map of Nepal after a really long and close game. The next map was a close story as well, where LG Evil took that game after an insane fight in overtime. The third and deciding game went LG’s way on Hanamura. The incentive for day two was to see if coL could shape up. Long story short: They couldn’t; their competition proved to be too strong. Selfless took a quick 2-0 over the scrappy-looking compLexity team, making Selfless 2 for 2 in games so far.

(A series of unfortunate events for CoL on Hanamura.)

Rise Nation and LG Evil played a fun series of games on day two. Rise Nation held first point on Hollywood, but then took ages to capture that same point themselves. Later they went to Hanamura, which resulted in a 1-1 draw and sent both teams to a BO3 tiebreaker on Oasis. LG Evil managed to come back from their Hollywood debacle to take Oasis, but then barely fell short on Nepal giving Rise Nation a 2-0 record in the group as well. Gale Force versus CLG was a close ordeal as well, and even if CLG won 2-0 the result doesn’t really reflect how well Gale Force actually played this match. Unfortunately, there’s no points for almosts, as Gale Force rests at the bottom of Group A together with coL.

(CLG’s Hydration oh Pharah pressuring on Numbani.)

Today the games from Overwatch Pit Championship will continue, with the final games from the European Group B as well as the continuation of the North American games. You can turn in at twitch.tv/overwatchpit at 18:00 CEST/9am PDT for the European games, and at 01:00 CEST/4pm PDT for the North American games. Want something to keep an eye out for? Look for LG Evil’s Jake on Pharah. He has played uncontested during many of the matches, but even when pressured he manages to keep his head cool and do very well for his team.
