DreamHack Winter 2016 is bringing Overwatch to new heights, giving some underdog teams a chance at a big win.
DreamHack Winter is a popular gaming tournament that is, for the first time, holding an Overwatch tournament alongside their CS:GO, Hearthstone, DOTA 2, Fifa 17, and Smash games. Them holding Overwatch shows just how far the game has come as an eSport, since its release in May this year.
The broadcasted Overwatch portion of DreamHack begins today with Ninja’s in Pyjama’s (NIP) taking on UnWanted at 12:00 CET. UnWanted is one of four teams who managed to qualify through the BYOC qualifier played off-stream yesterday.
The groups are set up as followed:
There are a lot of solid teams competing at DreamHack: 2 from NA, 2 from EU, and 4 from the BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) qualifiers. From North America you have Complexity Gaming and fnatic whereas Misfits and NiP are repping EU; the other 4 teams that got in are UnWanted, PENTA, mousesports, and LDLC gaming. LDLC gaming has had a strong performance lately and is a top 10 team in Europe who are not to be underestimated. Notable missing names of course include Rogue and EnVyUs, both of which were (and still are) busy with the OGN Apex League in Korea.
The tournament promises to be an exciting one and we love the idea of the BYOC qualifier to give the up and coming teams a chance at the spotlight. Even with the amateur teams this tournament is still offering some top notch talent in the form of NiP and Misfits, some of the best teams in the world. Especially NiP who have been thriving on the new patch that makes their triple tank composition even more effective than it was.
Tune in today, and tomorrow, at http://www.dreamhack.tv/dhw16-overwatch-championship-en for another memorable LAN.
