Misfits, NiP qualify for DreamHack Winter

The long running, popular gaming festival is back again and ready to host their first Overwatch tournament. The best of North America and Europe will battle it out for a $50,000 prize pool.

The European Qualifier has wrapped up for the DreamHack Winter event to be held in Jönköping, Sweden. The European qualifier is one of three, there will be an NA qualifier and a BYOC qualifier at the event itself. Two teams from each online qualifier will move on, joined by the top four from the BYOC tournament. They’ll compete on November 25th-26th for a $50,000 prize pool.

The European qualifier featured a double elimination, best of three bracket for most of the tournament, though the upper and lower bracket finals were played as best of five. Ninjas in Pyjamas and Misfits qualified for the tournament, with Misfits making it to the upper bracket finals without dropping a game. Among the teams they beat to get there were closed beta legends Melty eSport Club and Luminosity Gaming. The Finnish Phenoms faced off in a close series against NWA, before advancing to the final and defeating the Overwatch Open champions, 3-1.

Not deterred by this setback, however, Misfits waited for their challenger in the lower bracket. After dropping a series to NiP, NWA methodically worked their way up the lower bracket, defeating ANOX OW and Luminosity to face off against Misfits in the lower bracket final. Misfits made quick work of the new comers, ending the series 3-0.

The qualifiers will not be streamed but as always GosuGamers has your back with coverage of the entire tournament.
