Competitive Overwatch Weekend Recap - 27/28 Feb

Five tournaments were played this weekend: GG EU Weekly #5, OneHitClub Cup #2, GoodGame.ru Cup, GG NA Weekly #4 and ESL Community Cup #2. Catch up on all the Competitive Overwatch action.

The past weekend was filled with Overwatch cups. Even today fans of competitive Overwatch could again tune in to watch the top teams play. We understand that not everybody will have watched all (or any) of the tournaments, so allow us to summarize the important info for you!

GoodGame.ru Overwatch Cup #1 (Saturday 27st Feb, 12:00 CET)

VODs

GoodGame.ru's first step into the scene led to a short but but tournament. While the GoodGame team was introduced for the first time in this event, the only real big name in the tournament was REUNITED. There was a lot of competition between the mid-tier teams though, but not as many close matches as you might expect.

GosuGamers EU Weekly #5 (Saturday 27th Feb, 18:00 CET)

VODs

Week 5 of our GosuGamers Weeklies already, and we feel like we keep getting sweet, surprising matches every single weekend. In EU, Melty eSports is still absent for some reason, but they are getting heavy competition from teams like REUNITED and current hot-shots IDDQD. We'd like to thank all teams participating for their enthusiasm, and are glad we get to fill the 16 team bracket weekend after weekend.

OneHitClub Weekly #2 (Sunday 28th Feb, 0:00 CET)

VODs

OneHitClub.com returned with another edition of their Overwatch Cup. Starting around European midnight on Sunday, the tournament provided a chance for the NA teams to play without much interaction with the EU teams. Teams that deserve recognition are Prime., and googleme, another unsponsored but performing team.

ESL Community Cup (Sunday 28nd Feb, 15:00 CET)

VODs

Moved from Monday to Sunday, ESL hosted another Community Cup this weekend. Sunday seems to be the most popular day for events, with players being able to more or less play in different tournaments for over half the day. Keeping up with their previous ruleset, ESL is currently the only event with Bo1's in earlier round and hero restrictions. We hope their experimentation with hero limits will soon provide fans of the game with a new kind of meta in their tournaments.

GosuGamers NA Weekly #5 (Sunday 28st Feb, 21:00 CET)

VODs

This weekend was really the weekend of IDDQD and googleme showing their current grip on the meta, and on the other top teams. While not as stacked with big team names, the NA Weekly did show a bunch of mixed rosters of players that just wanted to compete. This provided a lot of great matches, so be sure to check the VODs! Also, big shoutout to Team Husky for taking the dive and participating in the event with only one week of practice together!
