Flash Back: Overwatch Meta before the beta was taken away.

February 9th can not come soon enough! Lets take a look at the VODS from the last GosuGamers Overwatch weekly and look at the strategies employed by the top teams of the beta.

Let us begin with the round of 16 where we saw Sad boys vs Fnatic.

Sad Boys was on the attack in the second half of the first match on Kings Row where they were able to utilize the Genji and Zenyata Orb of Harmony combo to put a ton of pressure on Fnatic right out of the gate. This combo allowed Genji to go off from his team and aggressively chase Fnatic's back line thanks to the improved sustainability of Orb of Harmony. Genji continued to make great use of the Orb of Harmony allowing him to advance all the way to Fnatic spawn and keep up the harass picking off a few more members of Fnatic which resulted in staggered deaths allowing Sad Boys to push the payload uncontested.

Next up in the round of 8 where we have Melty vs. Dino.

Melty capitalized on Dino’s in ability to deal with Symmetra's Teleporter. This is why teleporters are so powerful in Overwatch; respawn times are low but the travel times are long. However with Symmertra’s Teleporter that long travel time is negated and allows for constant pressure by Melty team to halt Dino's advancement.

Melty's great use of the Teleporter and Symmetra’s utility gave spectators a different outlook on how to play her. She is normally regarded as a weaker hero due to low damage and she has no sustained healing such as a Lucio or Mercy.

The semifinals between Not Enigma vs. Melty.

This match featured impeccable Resurrects from both team's Mercy players. Teams would get wiped, but resurrect turned the tide. Resurrect gives the members on your team two lives and a full heal, allowing the teams to keep fighting while not giving up momentum, especially if the enemy team used multiple ultimates to kill you the first time and they have nothing to kill you the second. Ressurection also shines if the enemy team suffered casualties in said fight making it nearly impossible to defend the second wave.

D’Va stack that took place in the grand finals between Not Enigma vs. Hubiris.

It's a popular strategy where these two teams swap to multiple D’Va’s as a last ditch effort to hold off the attacking team while they are just feet away from completing the objective. However we saw the strategy succeed in game three on Watchpoint: Gibraltar where Not Engima were a mere inches away from completing the objective until Hubris brought out the triple D’Va to hold them for over 3 minutes. Not Enigma tried desperately to break the D’Vas, unfortunately they could just not be stopped due to the double life of D'Va combined with the healing support of Lucio and Mercy.
