Don’t say goodbye to your Modern Warfare 2 cosmetics just yet.
For the first time ever, Activision is allowing players to carry over content from one Call of Duty game to the next. Following its announcement of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the publisher put up a lengthy blog post confirming that, “a vast amount of content,” earned by players in Modern Warfare 2 can be transferred to the sequel when it launches later this year.
This will be good news for players reluctant to jump from one Call of Duty game to the next so quickly, seeing as they won't have to part with most of the content they’ve earned or purchased from Modern Warfare 2’s in-game shop. That includes, “weapons and cosmetic content, including Bundles, Operators, and other rewards.” This means that you’ll be able to play as characters from The Boys right off the bat. However, there are a few exceptions.
Most content will be carried over, but according to Activision, “a small amount of content,” will be unavailable due to slight differences in Modern Warfare 3’s gameplay. For example, if the sequel doesn’t have the Tactical Amphibious Vehicle or other specific kinds of equipment, then any skins you’ve unlocked for those items in Modern Warfare 2 cannot be carried over. Wartracks (music) simply won’t be carried over at all. Unsurprisingly, there won’t be any way to transfer Modern Warfare 3 cosmetics to last year’s game retroactively.
It’s not all about cosmetics, of course. Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile hasn’t launched yet, but it will share player progression with Warzone, Modern Warfare 3, and Modern Warfare 2. The publisher says, “We intend to make all Operators, Weapons, Blueprints, and cosmetic equipment accessible, as well as integrating Player Level, Battle Pass access, and Weapon progression among these games.” This means that your Player Level will carry over from one game to the next too.
Activision also put out a new teaser for Modern Warfare 3 (see above), confirming Vladimir Makarov as its main villain with a brief synopsis:
It’s time to adapt or die in a fight against the ultimate threat. Task Force 141 will be tested beyond the breaking point. The ultimate threat is here. And this time, it seems Captain Price needs all the allies and support he can muster.
The sequel will get a full reveal on August 17 via a Warzone event called Operation Shadow Siege. The event is described as “an airborne to ground assault of the Konni-occupied Zaya Observatory,” that begins at 9.30 am PT, so you’ll want to tune into Warzone around that time if you want to participate.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will launch on November 10, 2023.
