Homelander brings superpowers to Call of Duty: Warzone in The Boys crossover

Image: Activision

Homelander, Black Noir and Starlight are playable in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 this week.

Call of Duty is no stranger to weird crossovers - this is a franchise that has brought in characters from Attack on Titan and Godzilla, after all - but its latest event is still a doozy. Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are crossing over with Amazon Prime Video’s dark superhero series The Boys.

Watch an NSFW (mostly just exploding heads) trailer for the crossover below:

The Boys is bringing its signature brand of chaos to Call of Duty: Warzone with this crossover, though only three characters from the show are dropping in: Homelander, Black Noir and Starlight. All three are members of a highly dysfunctional superhero team called the Seven, and will appear as in-game Operators. Homelander and Black Noir are supervillains while Starlight is the only honest member of the team, but none of the titular Boys seem to be part of this crossover. That’s a little odd.

Homelander, Black Noir and Starlight will be purchasable via separate Operator bundles for 2400 COD points each. The bundles include weapon blueprints, unique weapons, finishing moves, loading screens, character skins and more cosmetics inspired by The Boys. In case you think it’s ridiculous to run around in a gritty military shooter dressed up as superheroes, another bundle available this week lets you dress up as humanoid cat creatures named Sgt. Pspsps and Sgt. Sprinkles. The shark was jumped long ago.

It’s not all about cosmetics with this crossover, however. Players will now have to contend with limited-time field upgrades called Temp V, which provide one of four different superpowers upon consumption:

Charge Jump - Operators can jump across the map in leaps and bounds without suffering fall damage, but deal splash damage to enemies within a short radius of their landing spot.

Electric Shockwave - Operators deal an EMP-like electrical explosion that destroys vehicles and equipment while injuring enemies.

Laser Vision - Operators hover in the air and fire a laser beam that sears through enemies, but remain vulnerable while the ability is active.

Teleport - Operators are warped upward to get out of fights and reposition.

The Temp V field upgrades are only available in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and DMZ, but The Boys’ Operator bundles are available across all modes and Modern Warfare 2. Check out more details on Season 4’s content here.
