G-1 Group Stages: recap and look ahead

The closing match of the group stages between Invictus Gaming and Evil Geniuses came to a swift conclusion with the Chinese powerhouse edging out EG two games to none. The former seal their fate at the top of Group A with four wins and no losses while DK tops Group B after defeating Flash.

Bringing something new to the table every game was what iG was known for throughout the G-1 group stages, and in game two the team ran an offlane roaming Juggernaut by YYF while their trilane of Leshrac, Sven and Luna met EG's offlane Broodmother.

While YYF was still able to get experience on his lane, the same could not be said for Pajkatt's Broodmother, who was stuck at level one for the first six minutes. Jeyo's Brewmaster did a decent job providing ganks on Templar Assassin and Luna after he got an early Blink Dagger but their foothold in the game slowly faded away as teamfights broke out.

With superb positioning and presence of mind, the team was able to kite Primal Split with Leshrac being the only casualty while the remaining four heroes on iG's lineup took out the rest of EG. With a score of 32-10 at 28 minutes, EG forfeited the second iG, finishing Group A at fourth place.

The International defending champions Invictus Gaming have rounded up their perfect two week run at G-1 Champions League with a win over EG last night - their one-sided victories also indicate that if anybody were to stand a chance of stopping them, they would have to come from Group B.

A less than perfect connection and performance by EG barely places them ahead of Sequential at fourth place, where they will fight TongFu to keep their slot in the tournament.

Group B was largely dominated by the third Chinese powerhouse DK, who have slowly rebuilt their chemistry with the new roster over the past two weeks. Orange has also established themselves as arguably the best team in South East Asia, finishing ahead of TongFu and Natural 9 at second place.

Their match against iG in the Winner's Bracket will assess how prepared they truly are to take on the Chinese in Dota 2. Meanwhile, Flash gets a pass over Natural 9 due to time rating and will face MUFC on November 5th.

The first playoffs matchup between iG and Orange will kick off on the 3rd November at 13:00 CET. All matches will be played best out of three and at 13:00 CET. Meanwhile, check out available vods of the group stage matches here.
