As a staple of the South East Asian competitive DotA scene, Aeon made their entry into Dota 2 early this year, and with recent successes at Razer Dota 2 and eClub's The Evolution, the Singaporean team looks set to make a splash at the East qualifier this Wednesday.
GosuGamers sat down with the team amidst their busy preparations for the event.
How do you feel about playing in the qualifier this Wednesday?
WarNutZ: "Excited. I'm looking forward to the games."
KeN: "We are very excited about it, especially NutZ. He's been spamming us about it, that's for sure. We hope for the best and expect the best."
MrKio: "NutZ was so excited that he peed his pants."
WarNutZ: "... Sluts."
I understand your team has been working hard to get an invite for the event. Is anyone in the team still hung up over not getting an invite?
WarNutZ: "Erh.. Michael (Aeon's manager) has always been whining about MUFC getting invited while we didn't. Yeah.. Michael."
KeN: "We've gotten over it; our sights are now set on giving our best at the wild card qualifiers."
XtReM1St: "I did not whine about MUFC! That's invalid."
Now, the relationship between the top teams in Singapore have always revolved around Aeon and Zenith (and it's players). How would you compare the two teams?
KeN: "NutZ can answer this best. He should take this question."
MrKio: "Zenith.xy's favorite player is NutZ... (see)"
KeN: "Well, one team (Zenith) is filled with famous players recognized worldwide. The other is filled with players famous only locally. *smiles*"
WarNutZ: "I'm a famous player worldwide though."
XtReM1St: "Zenith has a wide range of play styles and big superstar names, while we're more focused on a few play styles with hard work and perfecting each."
Like Orange and MUFC?
WarNutZ: "Yes, sorta."
Do you think Valve made the right decision here organizing the qualifiers with best-of-three, double elimination brackets?
WarNutZ: "Yup. I guess it's the best way to find the strongest team among the bunch."
KeN: "Yes, definitely. Best-of-three and double elimination brackets usually helps the best team win."
K-I-N-G: "With best-of-three and double elimination, the luck factor involved in smaller brackets would mostly be filtered out, leaving only the best teams at the top."
Which teams do Aeon usually train with and how do you think that will affect your chances at the qualifiers?
K-I-N-G: "We usually train against Chinese, Malaysia and local teams. We don't have much information about the Pinoy and Thai teams, but right now we are doing our research on them."
Oh, tell us about the 'research' then.
K-I-N-G: "It's highly classified secret, that's all I can say. We find all their weaknesses and exploit them till their throne is down."
GoDz ranked TongFu as the team with the most potential to claim the East spot, followed by Aeon and WE/Trust. Do you agree with his evaluation? (see)
WarNutZ: "Not about the TongFu bit. *smiles*"
K-I-N-G: "GoDz is so wrong - Aeon will be first in the qualifier, first in The International. aL will be second. Well, maybe."
NutZ, why was he wrong about TongFu?
WarNutZ: "Because we should be first. *laughs*"
K-I-N-G, you primed Zenith and aL as Aeon's two main targets to take down in South East Asia (see). Is this still the case? What about the Malaysians?
K-I-N-G: "Yeah, it is still the case. They're our main targets because there's a rivalry between us and Zenith/aL. Singaporeans have not forgiven xMusica for abandoning his homeland. For Malaysians.. I guess only KeN wants to tear them apart."
KeN: "This is just for MUFC - you guys are going down. *smiles*"
WarNutZ: "Again.. this is all KeN."
MrKio: "KeN's best friend - MUFC."
KeN: "I'm going to take them down at The International! Well, if I get to go.. *smiles*"
