MSC 2023 is fast approaching and today we saw the Group Stage drawing for the event take place as the 12 teams prepare to begin their journey to the top.
With the 12 teams heading to the Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup 2023 all set, we only have a few weeks left until the epic event gets underway. From June 10th through to 18th the teams will take on an amazing journey through the Land of Dawn as they fight to become champions of MSC 2023. This year sees the tournament open itself up to more than just SEA teams, with the likes of North America, Middle East & Africa, Mekong, and Turkey joining into the battle. As we countdown to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, we look at the tournament format and the Group Stage split.
The format
Much like previous iterations of the event, this year will see the 12 teams being split into three groups for the initial stage of the tournament. Each group will see the teams involved playing in a best-of-three round robin, where the top two teams will progress into the Knockout Stage, while the bottom team is unfortunately eliminated from the event. The remaining 8 teams will move into a single elimination Knockout Stage, where best-of-five series will take over until a best-of-seven grand final to decide the champion of MSC 2023.
Should there be any teams tied at the culmination of the Group Stage, head-to-head rankings will be compared before looking to point differentials. Following this, if no victor is determined, teams will play in best-of-one tiebreakers to determine who will take which seeding.
The groups
Earlier today the Group Stage drawing for the tournament took place, with teams split into two pools and a few rules to keep the competition fair.
- Pool 1: ECHO, ONIC Esports, Fenix Esports, TODAK
- Pool 2: RSG Slate Singapore, Team EVO, Team Occupy, Blacklist International, Fire Flux Impunity, EVOS Legends, OutPlay, BURN x FLASH
Teams from the same qualifying region will not be drawn into the same group, while teams in Pool 1 will not be placed in the same group. The final stipulation is that 4 Franchise League teams will not be placed within the same group either. With that in mind, below are the groups for MSC 2023:
Group A
- ECHO
- Fire Flux Impunity
- Team EVO
Group B
- Fenix Esports
- RSG Slate SG
- EVOS Legends
Group C
