Another weekend of MPL action approaches

This weekend sees another batch of MPL action from the big three; PH, ID, and MY – but includes the first week of Cambodia’s 2022 Spring Split.

After a thrilling Week 1 across the board for each region, Week 2 of MPL Season 9 in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia is sure to give us just as much action – if not more. From PH, we saw the takeover of the rookies, as the “big” teams fell to some absolutely stellar opposition, leaving us with many questions for Week 2 and the Regular Season as a whole. Indonesia, on the other hand, was business as usual for the bigger teams, as they brushed away their opponents and got off to a strong start. MY was a mixed bag of results, with HomeBois stealing the show, as they move closer to removing the eight point penalty they started with. But this weekend sees another challenger thrown into the ring, as MPL Cambodia begins its Spring Split.

With even more Mobile Legends Professional League to watch this weekend, we are going to look at some of the best series to keep up with from each region.

MPL Indonesia

As mentioned previously, MPL ID’s opening week of Season 9 was without many surprises, as teams like Onic Esports, RRQ Hoshi, and Bigetron Alpha dominated things. However, that did not leave a lot of room for EVOS Legends and Alter Ego to take control – which could happen in Week 2. With that said, the two biggest series of the weekend will be involving RRQ Hoshi.

Saturday, February 26 – Onic Esports versus RRQ Hoshi

RRQ will be looking for vengeance on Saturday, as they take on their Season 8 rivals, Onic Esports. The two teams were both absolutely fantastic last season, with Onic slightly edging out RRQ in the grand finals. However, M3 saw both teams struggling quite a bit. This will be Onic’s chance at redemption, while RRQ look to exact their revenge. From the RRQ side, as always, look out for Alberttt and Clayyy, while Onic fielding Sir Ft Lans is something we were impressed with in Week 1.

Sunday, February 27 – Bigetron Alpha versus RRQ Hoshi

On to RRQ’s second matchup of the week and it is against a team that also had a fantastic first week back, BTR. The Robots will be looking to make up for a poor Season 8 and have already shown that they are here to fight. For both teams, the final series on Sunday has a chance to secure a firm hold on top of the standings, or possibly push them further down, depending on the way things go.

MPL Philippines

PH came out of 2021 as undoubtedly the strongest MLBB region, with Blacklist International, Onic PH, Bren Esports, and Smart Omega Esports all showing their prowess through the year. However, Week 1 of Season 9 showed that there is a lot more to PH than a top 4, as these teams mostly struggled. Meaning that we want to lookout for some new challengers.

Saturday, February 26 – TNC Pro Team versus ECHO

Two of the hottest teams from Week 1 will have to already separate themselves in a series on Saturday as TNC and ECHO go head-to-head. The two teams have conquered Smart Omega, Blacklist International, and Bren Esports between them so far, and now they look to continue to climb up the ladder, controlling PH’s MPL event for another week possibly.

Sunday, February 27 – Nexplay EVOS versus Bren Esports

Although losing their opening game in Week 1, NXPE certainly fought back to make things right for themselves, destroying Onic PH in their next matchup. With that in mind, Sunday will see them taking on a Bren Esports that are looking to rebuild after a poor Season 8 – this after having faced Blacklist on Friday. While this would be daunting for most teams, NXPE’s roster is an impressive one. For Bren, a three-series weekend is going to be very exhausting, but they will be looking to finally make their comeback.

MPL Malaysia

It was an interesting first week for MPL MY, with Todak struggling to get off the mark, while HomeBois – the team involved with the collusion charges, were dominant. With that in mind, HB are still on a negative score, as they work their way up from an eight-point deficit. This is why we feel that these are the two teams to watch in Week 2.

Saturday, February 26 – Team SMG versus HomeBois

While HomeBois are fighting tooth and nail to get back to an even standing with the other teams, even with some fantastic plays, Team SMG are going to be nothing like their Week 1 opponents. While they qualifier squad did take down SUHAZ, it was not without some troubles. SMG will be looking to cement themselves atop Group A with Week 2, and it is unlikely that HB will be able to do much to stand in their way.

MPL Cambodia

As a region in MLBB, Cambodia is still finding its way, with a few teams standing out above the rest. With that in mind, SeeYouSoon and Impunity KH have definitely been the two teams that impressed the most in 2021, with the former becoming the first champions of MPL KH. As mentioned previously, with the region still finding its footing, four teams in the Spring Split have come through open qualifiers, while the other four are from Season 1. This means that it is very difficult to gauge just what to watch yet.

With such a vast array of MLBB on the way this weekend, and even more coming soon as more regions kick off their MPL seasons, it is going to be tough to find much more to do than watch all the action unfold. Each region has some brilliant players, teams, and personnel, and with things just getting underway, we have a lot of Mobile Legends to go before each region has a champion.
