31st SEA Games: Vietnam secures yet another gold medal after sweeping the Philippines

Vietnam remains undefeated while securing a third gold medal.

It was a perfect performance for Team Vietnam in the League of Legends category for the 31st SEA Games as they went 10-0 throughout the three-day tournament to secure a third gold medal for their country. Vietnam went up against the Philippines in a best-of-five grand finals series that ended up being a very one-sided affair for the host nation. This will be the Philippines' first silver medal in SEA Games.

Team Vietnam started the first game of the series on the front foot, ensuring they good a good early game start that can eventually snowball the team towards victory. Vietnam was ruthless in their engagement against the Philippines with Viego and Kalista causing all sorts of problems for the Filipinos.

Because of Team Vietnam's superior map movement and rotations, they were able to catch the Philippines off-guard on numerous occasions, which almost always resulted in a kill or more, often putting the Filipino squad at a numerical disadvantage. This carried over to the second game as well with Team Philippines picking up the Viego for themselves while Vietnam settled for Lee Sin instead.

The home nation supporters did their job by spurring on the team when needed.

The home town heroes replicated their game one performances in the second, not giving the Philippines any time to breathe or even make any counter plays. For the most part, they were struggling to keep up with Vietnam's intensity and pace of the game. In game two, it was Zoe who stood out for the Vietnamese this time, dealing plenty of burst damage in a matter of seconds.

The third and final game featured a very different line-up for both teams but the story remained the same as Vietnam took control of the game from the very start. Being able to burst down an enemy champion in seconds with their team composition, Team Vietnam would roam in numbers from early on to ensure they win every engagement and turn it into an objective. With every team fight that went Vietnam's way, you can tell it was only a matter of time before they ended the game.

While beating the Philippines 3-0 in the grand finals is certainly something, the way Team Vietnam went about it was quite stellar. Because they were able to hold Team Philippines to single digit kills for all three games just showed how dominant Team Vietnam is, able to outmanoeuvre their enemies with ease.
