2XKO reveals Sett and Samira as final champions before development ends in December

Never count The Boss out.

Riot Games, the developer of 2XKO, the League of Legends fighting game, has revealed the last two champions coming to the game before it ends active development in 2026.

Samira, the Desert Rose, who was previously revealed alongside Lux three months ago, and Sett, also known as The Boss, are finally arriving on 27 October. The announcement was made on 2XKO's official social media accounts on Thursday (8 October):

The caption reads: “ready for the last round? samira and sett complete the 2XKO roster on october 27."

Sett's surprise reveal garnered quite the reaction on social media, with many fans pointing out how well he fits into the 2XKO roster.

Who is Sett in 2XKO?

In League of Legends, Sett is a brawler who runs the fighting pits in Ionia. He started out fighting in the pits himself, quickly making a name for his brute strength and ability to take a beating. Eventually, he fought his way to the top and took control of the very pits where he got his start.

You swing on The Boss? You better not miss.

In League of Legends, Sett is a bruiser primarily played in the top lane, a champion with a mix of both power and tankiness.

In the 2XKO trailer, some of Sett's abilities seem to have been adjusted for the game. The basics of his gameplay mechanics remain the same: he still uses his fists. We see him use Knuckle Down against enemies plenty of times, and what is likely the fighting game equivalent of The Haymaker. Facebreaker also makes an appearance, which looks like it's meant to stun enemies.

Of course, a version of Showstopper, Sett's ultimate, was also in the trailer. Sett also seems to have other abilities, such as blocking ranged attacks and other types of throw combinations.

Sett's final and complete moveset in 2XKO, however, has not yet been revealed by Riot Games.

Who is Samira in 2XKO?

“I don't work. I slay”, says Samira.

Known as the Desert Rose, Samira is a daredevil mercenary who grew up in Shurima before making a name for herself in Noxus. Armed with dual pistols and a sword, she takes on dangerous missions and fights with plenty of style, combining ranged attacks with close-quarters combat.

In League of Legends, Samira is a marksman primarily played as an ADC in the bot lane. She's a familiar pick in solo queue thanks to her aggressive, combo-heavy playstyle, and has also seen competitive play across major professional leagues.

In the 2XKO trailer, we finally see what her potential moves are. Most of her kit from League was retained and adjusted a little for 2XKO, including Daredevil Impulse, Flair, Blade Whirl, and Wild Rush. An elaborately animated version of her ultimate, Inferno Trigger, was also featured in the trailer.

Why is Sett's reveal in 2XKO such a big deal?

Revealing Sett as one of the final champions for 2XKO is a big deal because many fans believed he should have been part of the game from the start, given his lore in League of Legends and his gameplay kit. With his background as a pit fighter and a moveset built around punches, grapples, and throwing opponents around, Sett seemed like a natural fit for a fighting game.

Some fans were quick to question why Riot Games had waited until the very end to introduce him.

Sett waited seven years to be in a fighting game!

"WHY DIDN'T YOU START WITH SETT????" Cyber Noc said on X, echoing a sentiment shared by others who felt that the champion should have been among the game's earlier additions.

However, the excitement over Sett's reveal also brought back frustration over Riot's decision to end active development of 2XKO. Plenty of players lamented that the game would not get more time to grow, especially with so many League of Legends champions still available to bring into the roster.

"The more I watch this trailer, the more I'm like why is this game stopping???" X user @Cory29565470 said. The user pointed out that Riot Games still had a huge selection of interesting League of Legends characters that people had yet to see in 2XKO. They suggested giving the game at least one more season to develop, while acknowledging that League's gameplay mechanics might have been a bigger draw than its characters. Despite that, they felt Riot had made a solid fighting game and wanted the company to reconsider ending development.

"We wanted juggernaut mode but still, save this game!!!" they added.

Others also pointed out champions they believed would fit the game. X user SunnDay shared an image of Kha'Zix and Rengar, two League of Legends champions with a long-running rivalry, saying that both "need to be in the game."

Meanwhile, X user @juunkart had several suggestions for how Riot Games could save 2XKO. These included adding a traditional 1v1 mode, taking inspiration from established fighting games such as Street Fighter, offering more reasonable skin prices, and prioritising League of Legends champions whose abilities and fighting styles would translate well into the genre.

"Add champions that fit the fighting game concept better," the user suggested, before asking Riot Games: "Is it really that hard?"

Is 2XKO still ending active development in December 2026?

Despite the surprise reveal of Sett, Riot Games has not announced any changes to its decision to end active development of 2XKO in December 2026.

As Riot Games announced in August, it would stop releasing new content for the fighting game after struggling to retain enough players to keep development sustainable. At the time, Riot had named Samira as the game's final playable champion, with October's Patch 1.3.3 planned as its last major content update. A final patch focused primarily on bug fixes was also planned for December.

In its official announcement, Riot Games explained that 2XKO was costing substantially more to operate than it was bringing in, while player engagement had stayed relatively flat despite major updates.

More recently, Riot Games co-founder Marc Merrill discussed 2XKO's development and the player base it would have needed to sustain the game during an appearance on The Lemonade Stand podcast. "At their cost structure, it would've been in the high hundreds of thousands, if not millions," Merrill said when asked how many players 2XKO would have needed to continue operating as a live-service game. Merrill was referring to monthly active users, a substantial figure for a fighting game. He also acknowledged that while 2XKO had resonated with some players, its audience was nowhere near large enough to support the live-service model Riot had planned.

However, 2XKO is not shutting down completely. Riot Games has confirmed that its servers will remain online beyond December 2026, allowing players to continue playing on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, even after active development ends.

Samira and Sett are arriving in 2XKO on 27 October.
