Orange defends G-League title

The fourth and final cycle of SEA HoN Tour came to an end today with Orange eSports defending their crown against the Thai team Neolution eSports.MRR. ORGE therefore is the first team to ever defend a title, win two G-League titles and caps off a marvelous and dominating season.

It was the highly anticipated match of Orange eSports and Neolution eSports.MRR, the rematch of the Cycle 3 Grand Finals and the clash of the two worlds - Thailand against Malaysia and the best playoff team against the most dominating regular season squad. It had all the ingredients to be an epic fight to conclude the first stage of the debut season of the SEA HoN Tour. Unfortunately all four matches were rather short and one-sided with Orange eSports coming back from a 0-1 deficit to put down their Thai opponents and establish them once and for all as the best team in the SEA region.

Previously to this match, the jury was still out on that, since Orange eSports toyed with their opponents in the regular season - marching through that part without a single loss in 60 matches - but once the playoff light was toggled on, Orange eSports crumbled and fell apart. Twice they went into the playoffs with high hopes in Cycle 1 and 2, but falling down immediately in the Semis and in the Grand Finals. Up until their championship last cycle, the team was eagerly waiting for their first ever postseason victory, while putting down every other opponent throughout the regular season. Now they brought their playoff statistic to the .500 mark, elevated themselves from Turtle Master and MiTH.s2y by adding a second title and put down the unlucky "runner-up" in Neolution eSports.MRR twice in the big game.

In this Grand Final Neolution eSports.MRR started to feel good about themselves initially with a 28 minute victory right off the bat, but their enthusiasm and happiness was sucked out by Orange eSports bit by bit on the ensuing matches. First it was duiqu that put the Thais above the Malaysian powerhouse with his great play on Wretched Hag, but once that first loss hit, Orange seemed to be revitalized and even more eager to show that they have grown as a team. kiDDO` and dabeliuteef stepped up massively in the next three matches, Endkindler, Shuiyu and MrGhost made their presence felt with great initiation, jungling and support.

All three matches were fairly short, kiDDO` only died five times in the last three matches, hitting the number of deaths he reached in the first map alone, while dabeliuteef racked up big GPM and XPM numbers on Bushwack and Deadwood. Everything seemed to click for the Orange eSports team, who came together with this new lineup after the third cycle - the moment when they started winning. Now they move into the SEA HoN Tour playoffs of the eight best teams of the four cycles. It is hard to not call them the absolute favorite, seeing as they flat out bullied the competition in the regular season and now even in the postseason. They are poised to bring their talents through the SEA playoffs and all the way to the International HoN Tour Grand Finals if they stay on their path and not get distracted or have to rotate the roster.

For Neolution eSports.MRR on the other side this experience of losing the third Grand Final is not pushing them down completely, but might have left a mark in their confidence. Just like Jaedong in StarCraft 2, the Thai boys have fought their way to a great playoff record - being the team with the most playoff victories - but have never been able to cap off those runs with a title. In the end three runner-up spots and one third place finish is all they can put on their resume, while their biggest competition in Orange eSports, Turtle Master and Made in Thailand.Sorry Sorry all have a championship under their belt. The former DreamHack participant now has to regroup and refocus on the task at hand in the SEA HoN Tour playoffs to get back into the groove and maybe overcome the issue of not being able to win the big one.

And these are the eight that should be in the SEA HoN Tour playoffs starting soon. All those eight teams have accumulated enough points to get into the mix and compete for the regional SEA HoN Tour title. Four of those teams have been in the G-League for all four cycles, MiTH.s2y and bRix spend three cycles in G-League, rAq and ImpE made their presence felt with just two cycles under their belt but very strong performances in D1 and top six placements once they reached G-League.
