Xbox has weighed in after reports of an exclusivity deal to stream GTA VI made the rounds.
Xbox has pushed back on a report from The Verge claiming Microsoft had secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI, with chief strategy officer Matthew Ball saying the game “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”
In a post on X on Wednesday (7 October), Ball said excitement around GTA VI and Xbox had “led to some misreporting,” before adding: “We are looking forward to launching GTA VI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”
The original report had suggested Xbox Cloud Gaming could become the only cloud service able to stream GTA VI at launch, potentially giving PC players a way to access the game, despite Rockstar Games not announcing a native PC version.

Where did the GTA VI streaming report come from?
The report followed an internal Xbox all-hands meeting, where CEO Asha Sharma reportedly told employees that Microsoft had something planned around GTA VI that “no other platform holder is doing.” The Verge, citing sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans, reported that Sharma was referring to Xbox securing exclusive game streaming rights for GTA VI.
Insider Gaming also covered the report, including the possibility that the deal could make Xbox Cloud Gaming the only cloud service able to offer the game at launch.
What could exclusive GTA VI streaming rights have meant for players?
If the reported deal had been accurate, players would not necessarily have needed a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S to access GTA VI at launch. Xbox Cloud Gaming could have streamed the console version to supported devices, opening the door to people playing on PC, mobile, or other compatible hardware.
That would have mattered most for PC players, since Rockstar has yet to announce a native version of GTA VI. Streaming through Xbox Cloud Gaming would not have counted as a proper PC release, but it could have given them a way to play without buying a console. Ball’s clarification now appears to rule out both the exclusivity, and that PC access will be available at launch. What Sharma was referring to during the internal meeting remains unclear.
GTA VI is currently set to launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November, 2026. Rockstar Games has yet to announce a PC version.
