MRR secures playoff spot, KaiD and Step Gods survive

??
The final day of G-League had a lot of excitement and drama in it. Ultimately Neolution eSports.MRR secured their second playoff ticket in the second cycle, while both Thai teams of KaiD and Step Gods survived the brutal demotion struggle by the skin of their teeth - and 24 seconds.

Heading into the last day of G-League a total of four teams were still in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot, while Orange eSports, Made in Thailand.Sorry Sorry and Turtle Master were already in the postseason. In the end three of the four teams won their deciding matches, but with Neolution eSports.MRR holding on to a one-point advantage, they did enough to secure the spot.

With a stellar and dominant performance against iMpunity.Storm they made their ambitions absolutely clear. The whole match against NoVa's team only lasted about 36 minutes on the server, with the second match being a clear and decisive 15 minute concede for the former DreamHack participant. That victory was all they needed to clinch the back-to-back postseason appearance, on the way to repeat their performance from last cycle - ending with the silver medal after all.

bRix and Insidious eSports both did their part with victories over FunFunPlace and Gspeed AVI respectively, but couldn't find an aiding partner in iMpunity.Storm to take away some points from Neolution eSports.MRR. While this ends the cycle for bRix with a bitter taste in their mouth, Insidious eSports is looking at a solid and successful rookie season in G-League with a total of 24 points, seven victories and four ties. The sixth place makes them the second best promotion team this cycle - with MiTH.s2y reaching the playoffs right away.

iMpunity.Storm on the other side drops all the way down to the eight spot with the clean loss against MRR, even behind Anti Moon Queen. The comeback and the resurgence of the team in the second half of the regular season was not enough and not sustainable in the long run, but they will return in the third cycle to once again strive for the playoffs.

On the bottom of the standings Vietnam minion Team and 2nd Runner Up were already demoted before the final day of competition, but a total of four teams was still fighting for their G-League life. Out of those four only KaiD won their match, Step Gods at least forced a split against DC Fabulous while FunFunPlace and Gspeed AVI both lost their matches. The result of that was a three-way tie between KaiD, 5tep and F2P, but spelled doom for Gspeed AVI, who were confirmed to drop down with these results.

To break the tie, a mini tournament was initiated with KaiD, Step Gods and FunFunPlace all playing each other. Even that didn't bring a lot of light into the very difficult situation of this tie, as KaiD won against F2P, but lost to Step Gods, who themselves couldn't pull off a victory against FunFunPlace. That meant that all three teams had each won one match of the mini tournament and the time rule was the last resort to break this apart. The victory times of all three teams were compared and the two fastest times could stay in the league, while the slowest victory would drop down to D1.

In the end only 24 seconds separated KaiD's victory and F2P's victory, who both needed a bit over 29 minutes to finish off their opponents. Step Gods on the other side took care of KaiD in under 25 minutes and was clearly saved, but the other fight once again went down to the wire. KaiD was able to get the direct victory over FunFunPlace in 29;33 minutes: FunFunPlace needed 29:57 minutes to finish the deal against Step Gods. The amount of an NBA Shot Clock was all that separated those two teams, but as close as it might have been, FunFunPlace is the fourth and final team to be demoted to the first division of SEA HoN Tour.
