?The G-League regular season officially ended today with three teams still on the verge of losing their G-League status for the next cycle. In the end Gspeed and 2nd Runner Up barely avoided elimination and The Star Boy Band suffered the dreaded demotion down to D1.
The playoff race was already decided with Turtle Master winning the regular season, Orange eSports placing second and Neolution eSports.MRR and Brix getting the third and fourth seed for sure. The only exciting part about G-League left to sort out was the last demotion spot. Which team would join Who We Are, Guilty Crown and iMpunity.Fire down to the D1 and which team could hang on?
Three teams were still in serious jeopardy with 2nd Runner Up sitting on 12 points, The Star Boy Band and Gspeed AVI having only 11 so far. So essentially 2nd Runner Up could sit back and hope for a blunder of TsBB or Gspeed AVI, as they faced the toughest task in Turtle Master and had limited chances to gain any more points regardless. The edge in the tied area was with Gspeed AVI, who got Who We Are on the schedule, while TsBB from Thailand had to take on the playoff bound squad of Brix.
It all played out as expected with Gspeed AVI cruising to victory over the last place team of Who We Are, Turtle Master shutting down 2nd Runner up and The Star Boy Band losing to the surprise team of the cycle in Brix. Ironically the surprise team of the qualifiers can't grab the final straw and gets send down to D1 at the hands of the new surprise team.
Those results make it official with Who We Are and Guilty Crown rejoining their region in the D1 of SEA, while iMpunity.Fire and The Star Boy Band going to Thai D1. If the 50/50 region distribution in G-League will stay as well is going to be determined next week in the D1 playoffs with eight teams competing for the four open G-League spots. Among those competing are the Thai standouts of KaiD and Made in Thailand as well as the Singaporean powerhouse of iMpunity.Earth, who have a chance to fill the void of their brother team Fire.
