This means in comparison to the first season that the Champion and the runner-up of every Diamond Cycle receive more money than before while everyone else has to take a severe pay cut. In the Gold Division the Champs will receive a total of 50,000 Gold Coins for winning the prestigious Gold Division, with the runner-up being able to cash in 35,000 Gold Coins in the ingame market.
Overall every cycle will give away $10,000 USD and a grand total of 440,000 Gold Coins (with a value of around $8,000 USD). Still the decrease of dollars in the competition from around $33,000 USD every cycle to now $10,000 USD is a drastic decrease - although the Season 2 of HoN Tour will feature two more cycles to level the field in the value discussion again.
Other than that the next season is poised to bring in even more action to the viewers as before. The amount of cycles was raised to ten, the coverage has gained a new mainstream broadcast team with Mangy and Dan on StayGreen's stream and the Gold Division playing days have been reduced so that the amount of commitment and time investment for the Gold teams is manageable.
The season will once again start with the qualifiers, just like last season, but this time the eight best teams will receive a direct path to the Diamond Divison. Those eight chosen teams are already determined and they will not only get a direct ticket into the highest division of HoN Tour, but they will also take the eight top seeds in the first cycle. The reigning Champs of Stay Green will be seeded first, followed by Team USA (former compLexity Gaming), Lions eSports, DreamHack sensation Vietnamese Dream Team, Too Much Sugar, Internet Gangsters, locomotives and last but not least Team Excellent. High profile teams like BRB 3 min, Justice League or Absolute Legends have not make the cut and have to prove their worth through the qualifiers yet again.
In addition to that the point system, one of the major critique points of the first season, has been vastly improved with narrower gaps between the individual spots and a better level of point distribution between the different leagues. Before the changes were introduced a Gold Championship would give a team as much as a 5th or 6th spot in the Diamond Division, now the Gold Champion and runner-up are only marginally more valuable than the 13th through 16th spot of the highest level of competition.
Similar to that the seeding of the new cycles is also changed. The point ranking is not relevant for the seeding anymore, but the most recent cycle is determining the order of the seeding for the following cycle. This also eliminated another major point of criticism that was brought to HoN Tour in the last season, because most of the matches in every league would just repeat themselves without any major shuffles.
While the ranking loses the importance for seeding, it will still be important in the end of the season, as the season draws closer and closer to the major International Grand Finals in South East Asia, the best teams of the entire season will be in position to fight for a ticket to the finals. The #1 seed will automatically get invited, the second open NA/EU spot at the International Grand Finals will be determined through a massive playoff extravaganza. 16 teams are allowed to participate, but only one team will win and join the "regular season" Champs on their trip to the overall finals.
