Rehgar still viable while Xul gets no love at COPA America Spring Championship

Four teams have fought their way to the top of their region, but only one will earn the chance to represent Latin America in Korea at the Spring Global Championship.

Latin America was the final region to set their representative for the Spring Global Championship this weekend. It's been a hard fought  season with multiple qualifiers for each of the three seasons (regions) dating back to January, all leading to the COPA America Spring Regional Playoffs.

The first series of the semi-finals pitted the Chileans Kaos Latin Gaming up against the Peruvian team Crusader Gaming. Crusaders noteably the more skilled team, target banning Xul in all games and taking the match flat out, 3-0.

Big Gods are favored to go all the way and on the other side of the semi-finals bracket they proved they are a force to be reckoned by shutting out ReBirth 3-0. The two teams feared Xul as well, banning him in all 3 games.

The recent changes to Rehagar seem to have not fazed any of the Latin American teams, being played in all semi-final games. Xul was banned in all games.

Both teams did not seem to run into too many troubles on their path to the final qualifying stage, with them only dropping a single map each. As game one got under way, it was clear to see that the two teams were rather evenly matched, trading leads back and forth. As the series went on though, Crusader were able to muscle out a lead each time, eventually taking the series 3-0, making it look far more one-sided than it actually was.

With Crusader Gaming only one win away from representing the entire South American region, they awaited the winner of Rebirth Esports and BigGods.

This set was much more convincing, with the primarily Brazilian team BigGods also taking their series 3-0. Even when Rebirth looked to be taking an advantage, the superior map play and team fighting from BigGods shone through in the end, proving that they are worthy of their spot in Blizzard's Global Power Rankings.

Now it comes down to a single best of 5 between Crusader Gaming and BigGods, with the winners heading over to Korea to represent their region. To see all the action, or to catch up on how the teams made it this far, head over to the Copa America Twitch.
