Vietnam with back-to-back GosuCup champions as DaPh wins Cup #5

Minh-Duc “DaPh” Pham became GosuCup SEA’s fifth champion this Saturday. His win over Singapore player Wang “Wth76” Tinghan brought his country its third GosuCup championship this season alone.

DaPh is by no means a stranger to GosuCups. In the 2014 season, the Vietnamese was one of the most consistent players in the region, ultimately earning a spot for himself in the 2014 Grand Finals. A loss to eventual champion Havatite put his run to an end then, but this hasn’t harmed DaPh’s competitive spirit one bit.

This Saturday, he had to face quite the opposition before we could crown him champion. DaPh went through several tough opponents, including two GosuCup semi finalists in Amaze and Zheming. After he dismantled Wth76 3-1 in the grand finals, he was sitting on a 17-4 record over four series. And also, of course, $300 and 20 World Championship points.

1. Vietnam DaPh - $300 + 20 HWC points
2. Singapore Wth76 - $100 + 10 HWC points
3-4. Singapore Soryu - $50 + 5 HWC points
3-4. Thailand Gomms - $50 + 5 HWC points
5-8. Singapore Amaz – 1 HWC point
5-8. Vietnam Zleftys – 1 HWC point
5-8. Singapore Pewpewurface – 1 HWC point
5-8. Thailand Misomiso90

Despite having three champions in five tournaments, Vietnam is still struggling to catch up to Singapore. The country has been mass-producing high-place finishers and if they’re not winning it, they’re at least going to the semi or grand finals. What’s good news for Vietnam is that they’re ahead of the Philippines now and another good run in the next cups might even top the Singapore kings.

1. Singapore Singapore – 25 points
2. Vietnam Vietnam – 17 points
3. Philippines Philippines – 16 points
4. Thailand Thailand – 7 points
5. Malaysia Malaysia – 4 points
6. Indonesia Indonesia – 3 points
7. India India – 1 point
