It was Wes "Wespogi" Tan against GosuCup 2014 champion Wong Zi "AkiSera" Wen in this week's GosuCup SEA grand finals. Despite coming in as the underdog, the Filipino ran away with a 3-2 victory over the Singaporean powerhouse and banks $300 and 20 Blizzcon points.
One could say argue both players had a relatively easy way to the grand finals. AkiSera’s most renowned opponent was Cup #1 champion Pewpewurface but other than that, both contenders drilled through relatively unknown names.
The finals, though, were something else. Wespogi took the first game but AkiSera quickly turned it around and by game 3, the Filipino was staring in the face of elimination. Fortunately for the viewers, this was about to be a five-game finals and Wespogi had no intention of giving up. Despite making some questionable decision in the semi finals against Zheming, Wespogi stepped up his play significantly, and turned it all around.
This marks Wespogi’s first championship in the GosuCup circuit of tournaments. The Filipino takes home $300 and 20 World Championship points, leaving AkiSera with $100 and 10 points.

In the nation standings, which you can also view any time on the GosuCup.com front page, Singapore is still in the lead after three weeks, consistently having representatives in the top 4. The Philippines are catching up now with Wespogi’s victory but they’re still a few points behind and will need another good finish next Saturday to catch up.
Vietnam wraps up the top 3. The country had amazing success last season but this time it’s still trying to find its power.
