He went 17-4 in games across eight rounds of heated Hearthstone action to become the first champion of the new season. Hail Wee Long "Pewpewurface" Tay, winner of GosuCup SEA #1.
The 2015 circuit of GosuCup SEA opened with an incredible success. Almost 300 players signed up for the tournament today, eager to grab a piece of the $500 prize pool as well as the valuable World Championship points.
After eight gruelling series, it was Pewpewurface who triumphed in the grand finals. The Singaporean player had a short history in the 2014 GosuCups but never came close to the prize pool, until today. His skill shined especially bright in the last two series of the day. In the semi finals, he faced GosuCup newcomer Kev "Amaze" Ong, taking down his quirky [card]Divine Spirit[/card] Priest in three consecutive series.
If Amaze was the on-paper underdog in the series, one Aaron "Aaronkoh" Koh - Pewpew's grand final opponent - wasn't. A champion of the GosuCup 2014 regular tournaments and a bronze medalist from the grand final, Aaronkoh was ready to school whoever stood in his way in the art of Hearthstone. He had even beaten Filipino powerhouse Dustin "WaningMoon" Mangulabnan and Jan "Chalk" Zadivar in the previous rounds, further making him the favorite.
It wasn't meant to be for Aaron today, however. His dedication to his Handlock became his downfall, as Pewpew sliced through it with his Oil Rogue, Control Warrior and his own Handlock, the latter game even going to fatigue.
Pewpewurface will bank $300 of the total prize pool as well as 20 World Championship points.
