The holy grail of WEC coverage - interviews, VODs, schedule, news, results and more

Sweden Darkwonyx vs Korea Surrender

Right off the bat, Darkwonyx gets a favorable match-up, playing Shaman against Surrender’s Warrior. Though Garrosh is known for struggling against Thrall’s board presence, Surrender makes it work, stabilizing the board on the back of [card]Death's Bite[/card] attacks. On T9, the Korean [card]Alexstrasza[/card]’s Shaman’s face and one attack later, Darkwonyx is in the single digits. The Swede manages to take the dragon down but a topdecked [card]Ragnaros the Firelord[/card] ends his dreams for an early lead.

Game two is another control game with Darkwonyx choosing Paladin. Once again, the early rounds go bad for him. His [card]Truesilver Champion[/card] is wrecked by [card]Harrison Jones[/card] and for a moment the tempo is with the Korean, until Darkwonyx’s [card]Cairne Bloodhoof[/card] comes out to equal the scales.

Darkwonyx continues to lay threats on the board, challenging Surrender’s hand that holds [card]Alexstrasza[/card], [card]Sylvanas Windrunner[/card] and [card]The Black Knight[/card]. By T10, Paladin’s board is wall to wall and with no [card]Brawl[/card] in Surrender’s hand, the win for Darkwonyx is secured.

Karma comes to haunt Darkwonyx in game four as, just like his opponent in the previous match, he can’t find the mass removals to deal with Shaman’s early board. On T6, Darkownyx is staring at double [card]Flametongue Totem[/card] with zero spells to activate his [card]Wild Pyromancer[/card] to at least try and clear the board. Two later, the Swede is dead, never having found either of his [card]Consecration[/card] or [card]Equality[/card].

The series makes a full circle and is back to a Shaman vs Warrior face-off and Darkwonyx gets on the way to repeat the scenario from earlier. A topdecked [card]Baron Geddon[/card] plus [card]Fiery War Axe[/card] clears Shaman’s board and a [card]Brawl[/card] makes for a second sweep but Surrender quickly repopulates. With the game in the deep late game, Shaman’s hero power showcases why Thrall is usually favored in this match-up. Darkwonyx is dry on removals and stares as he’s slowly chipped to death by totems.
