The 31st edition of the NESL Preseason Cups is in the books with Don't Kick My Robot having a strong team performance, but Canadian Luffy reeling in the win in the end.
For a long time Canadian Hearthstone player Luffy was slumping in the NESL competitions, ever since he had a lock on the #1 seed in every tournament. His results weren't the same anymore up until this Sunday - ironically following him drop to the third seed. Suddenly the teamless player performed again and took the 31st installment of the preseason cups by storm. This victory is not only putting him in the King of the Hill competition against the reigning champion TidesofTime and invited challenger Gnimsh, but he also threw a wrench in the celebration of DKMR.
The popular and beloved Hearthstone brand protecting their robot had a solid outing as a team with newly signed Kisstafer reaching the Semis and long-time member Brad making it to the Grand Finals, but Luffy had their number. Eliminating DKMR's BorN in the fifth round and then denying Brad the title of the week is putting DKMR on notice that Luffy came to play. Last in the top four, ultimately falling to Luffy in the Semis was SnipedAgain - an American that is on the uprise in these tournaments as well.
While those four known names made it deep into the bracket, the journey ended prematurely for a bulk of other big names once more. MYM's Blackout, Ignite and Semijew left the competition in the fourth or third round, former champion Twisted got eliminated in Round 2, DuckWingFACE fell down one round later, zRusher couldn't make it past the fourth round and #2 seeded Alchemixt lost his initial game in Round 2 after receiving a bye.
