Hearthstone to have a World Championship at BlizzCon

Similar to their other eSport title StarCraft 2, Blizzard will run a series of qualifiers and tournaments and send the sixteen best players from four regions to Anaheim at the end of the year for a final championship event.

What was hinted in a previous blog post some weeks ago now takes a more tangible shape: Hearthstone's World Championships will travel to Anaheim, California and visit BlizzCon 2014 with 16 of the best Hearthstone players in the world. The goal: to find who will inherit the Innkeeper's throne from Artosis.

A total of four qualifier tournaments with different formats will be run for the Americas, Europe, China and Korea/Taiwan. The Americas and Europe qualifiers will have an analogical player pool, featuring the top 16 players from the April-August ranked seasons, weekly cup winners for that period, the top 3 players from "selected licensed events" and some last call qualifier spots.

China will hold a similar selection process but will bring the players to an onsite event. For Korea, two players will be selected from the OGN Hearthstone League (yet to be announced) and for Taiwan, two more will come from the Taipei Computer Applications Shows (details also yet to be announced).

Each qualifier will send its top four players to BlizzCon where the multi-region finale will determine the world champion for 2014. Details about prize pools are still unrevealed.
