Rockstar has implied that GTA VI will not feature multiplayer at launch.
The GTA VI marketing campaign has finally begun, with Rockstar recently launching pre-orders, revealing pricing and additional details. However, a simple confirmation regarding the game's single-player experience has left fans questioning the future of its multiplayer counterpart, GTA Online.

Will GTA VI have a multiplayer mode?
On the PlayStation Store, Rockstar published several FAQs for GTA VI, including the question: "Does Grand Theft Auto VI have any multiplayer modes or features?" To answer this, the company simply replied: "GTA VI is a single-player experience."
The statement suggests that GTA VI will launch as a single-player-only title, with no mention of an online component having been made during its marketing campaign so far.
This has sparked widespread speculation online. As seen on several Reddit threads and other corners of the internet, people believe the multiplayer mode could be released separately as a standalone product, potentially as a free-to-play experience or behind an additional paywall.
Others expect Rockstar to follow a similar release strategy for GTA VI as its predecessor GTA V. GTA Online launched two weeks after GTA V's release in September 2013. Rockstar could very well replicate that roadmap and introduce multiplayer for GTA VI in a post-launch update.
This theory is further supported by reports of a 32-player online mode that surfaced through documents linked to former Rockstar employees, suggesting that a multiplayer mode was in development at some point. As reported by People Make Games, Rockstar alleged that the employees had “discussed the specific number of online players planned for this service, a material feature of this new title, which has not yet been revealed by Rockstar.”
The idea of GTA VI launching without any multiplayer plans at all would be difficult to imagine. GTA Online has been instrumental in maintaining the franchise's popularity for more than a decade, particularly through the rise of its roleplay (RP) community. The game has continued to attract significant viewership and ranked among Twitch's five most-watched games just this month, further bolstered by its successor’s imminent launch.
For now, the studio remains tight-lipped about any multiplayer plans and what players can expect after launch. While fans of single-player experiences may welcome the focus on the solo campaign, those hoping for the next evolution of GTA's sandbox multiplayer are left wondering if the sequel has more to offer.
