What is new in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3's Age 1000 setting?
While Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 stays true to the series' RPG formula, the latest trailer places considerable attention on the world players will inhabit between fights. West City serves as the centrepiece of AGE 1000, with the trailer introducing locations such as West City University, and offering a closer look at daily life within the city.
Bulma and Gamma 1 both appear in the trailer, with Gamma 1 welcoming players into the ranks of the Great Saiyan Squad. Alongside returning Dragon Ball characters, players will also encounter several original newcomers including Brett, Lilica, ROM, and Tap, all of whom are making their debut in the series.
How does combat work in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3?
The new footage also highlights several additions to the series' trademark high-speed combat. Players will be able to fly freely around West City before diving into battles filled with rapid movement, powerful ki attacks, and character-specific abilities. However, the biggest changes appear to come from new systems designed to give player choices a larger role during combat.
Race selection now has a greater impact on how battles unfold. Saiyan characters can access multiple Super Saiyan forms that provide increasing levels of power, while Earthlings gain access to a different set of combat options and mechanics.
One of the headline additions is the new Soul Assist system, which allows players to launch powerful attacks alongside allies from across the Dragon Ball universe. The game also introduces Soul Switch, a mechanic that temporarily lets players harness the soul of iconic Dragon Ball characters. Characters shown as examples include Krillin, Piccolo, Vegeta, Future Trunks, and Tien, granting new abilities and additional power during battle.
The latest gameplay reveal arrives after years of continued support for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, which originally launched in 2016 and remained active through a steady stream of updates and downloadable content. While that support helped keep the game alive for nearly a decade, many players have also been eager to see what a full follow-up would look like on current-generation hardware.
With AGE 1000 introducing a new setting, original characters, and expanded combat systems, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is shaping up to be a significant new chapter for the long-running series.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
