Game developer Iron Gate and publisher Coffee Stain Publishing had a long-awaited announcement to share for fans of Valheim this week: the Viking survival game is finally launching into 1.0 on 9 September, 2026. This will mark the end of the game’s now-five-year-long early access period.
Here’s the 1.0 trailer:
Valheim 1.0
Release date: 9 September, 2026
Developer: Iron Gate
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Linux, and Mac
When is Valheim coming out in 1.0?
Valheim’s 1.0 update is coming out this September, ending the game’s early access period following its original release on 2 February, 2021. It’s been a long five years, but the game is coming out with its biggest update yet, adding its final biome: Deep North, an icy frigid land, filled with glacial peaks and frozen tundras.
Valheim players will find a snowstorm in the Deep North that, once cleared out, will reveal frozen fields and snowy mesas. The land contains vast abandoned villages, and more ancient threats like Gammeltrolls. The land’s underground teems with life still, including the malicious Elakingar.
Valheim’s big 1.0 update will see the game launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The update will also launch on the game’s existing platforms, including PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will have full cross-play on these platforms.
More specific details on the update’s contents will likely be released in the coming months.
